The main issue with moving melo is the teams who want him and he wants have so little to offer in return
They are all stacked in win now mode and have older players and limited picks
However both Portland and Detroit have come out dangling picks in this years draft. This is the way to make things happen.
Ny trades melo to the cavs
Ny gets Stanley Johnson, Reggie Jackson and miles Leonard plus portlands 20th and detroits 15
Cavs get melo
They send out shump, Frye and RJ as well as cash to det and a future 1st rounder to Detroit. Like in 2022 or something. Top 8 protected let's say.
Detroit sends Reggie Jackson, Stanley Johnson and the 15 th
They get Frye and Shump and Cle's pick
Portland send Leonard and 20 to ny and they get RJ and a trade exception
Portland sheds major contract
Detroit adds vets that fit their style and remove Jackson, who they hate, and Johnson who they are disappointed in
Clev lands melo for next to nothing. A lineup of kyrie, Lebron, melo, love and Thompson is their version of the warriors east
And NY sheds melo, takes on contract in Jackson and Leonard
Ny adds a young talent in Johnson who should do well in the triangle, a guard in Jackson who can actually play and who Phil has been rumored to want.
And of course we have the 8, 15 and 20 picks in the draft
I'd argue that we can either rebuild the roster with those picks or package two of them together to move up and target either Josh Jackson or Tatum from Phili or phx
Thoughts?
damn! you hate the pistons that much? do you realize pistons pick is 12 and not 15? and if the pistons are going to wait 5 years for a pick in your proposed lopsided trade, i as a fan would hope they'd be smart enough to insist the pick be unprotected.
