Play off ball. Make shots. Doesn't have to be anothing special on D. Maybe try to get the occasional steal.
So your argument is to max out a "3rd banana"?

That's not what I said at all. Although it does sound like ainge wants to keep him regardless. But I do think isiah could give you a poor man ray Allen's type numbers. If you get hayward he could give you a poor man's Paul pierce..so there's your 2nd and 3rd stars. Hopefully we can find a # 1 through a trade or our draft picks (fultz?)And while our 2nd and 3Rd are slightly weaker than our 2nd and 3rd stars than in 07 the team around them is much better. Way more depth after our top players than in 07 it's not even close. So our stars don't have to be quite as good..they need to be close for sure but I'm saying I think we could get by assuming we don't mess up these next couple draft picks. If one of them turns into a stud in a couple years if not 2 of them well be onto something. And if we can trade for a star with our depth without including any of the Brooklyn picks we could have a better team than 07. Easier said than done of course..
As to the maxxing it...my opinion is if were gonna be over the Cap anyway the salary we pay IT doesn't effect us as much. Maybe wyc will feel it But team building wise it wouldn't matter. I don't see any reason why IT couldn't give you 18 to 20 points a game In that last year of his contract..besides I assume by then we won't be relying on him as much assuming some of our draft picks develop. Maxing IT scares me a little sure I just don't see a better way.
Our window is really in 3 years. Hayward Hortford and IT surrounded by 23 year old Jaylen Brown 22 Year old Markelle Fultz and 21 year old Bamba (a man can dream) that's pretty intriguing. Either way whatever we do I trust Ainge to make the right decision. Can't remember the last bad move hes made.
