Value of Fultz-Celtics is different from Fultz-Sixers. And I think the gap in value of Fultz-Celtics vs Josh Jackson-Celtics is minimal. But the value of Fultz-Sixers much higher than Jackson-Celtics.

Totally true. I personally don't like players like Fultz on the typical teams because I don't want him running my offense, and I'm not sure that he can play the 2 full time, or at least that he could play it full time better than someone like Josh Jackson.

However, on the Sixers that goes out the window because Simmons is here. He is a perfect player for us.

I was nervous when the rumor was unprotected Lakers 18 pick and a protected 21 pick from us. I was more nervous when it looked like it was unprotected Lakers 18 pick plus protected Kings pick.

Now that I had that brief scare I am totally on board with the deal as it has been constructed. Whether we pay next year or the year after, it is a very valuable asset that we traded. Thankfully, we still have one of the picks as a very valuable asset that remains.

There is no denying that Fultz/Embiid/Simmons is one of the most talented 23 and under cores that have ever been assembled, at least on paper, and I agree with the notion that we had excess assets that we could afford to do this. Hell Saric as a 4th 23 and under core piece is amazing even more.

I'm still nervous about passing on Jackson because I love him, but Fultz fits better for sure. No doubt about it that he is better for Simmons and Embiid than Jackson would have been.

Just look at my avatar to find out where my passions are on the Hinkie/Colangelo spectrum, but there is no doubt about it that Colangelo has handled himself very well in his first year. It's a very pleasant surprise for me because I was afraid that he was going to go in a different direction.

I love his draft picks of TLC and Korkmaz too. I even like the free agent signings of Bayless, Henderson and Rodriguez.

His only real misstep is how he handled the Okafor/Noel issue, but in retrospect the Okafor part of that has to be blamed on Hinkie. Nobody is perfect.

Can't wait for summer league now.

Small world, my wife went to middle school and high school in Upper Marlboro, MD (Fultz' hometown). He was in diapers at the time though.

dckingsfan wrote:So, looks like it is this so far, question - do they bring over Korkmaz this season? Looks a bit thin at PF. But there is a glut of PFs on the marketplace in this years FA class - who do you like?

Code: Select all

PG   Fultz        Bayless           McConnell
SG   Henderson    Luwawu-Cabarrot   Stauskas   Anderson
SF   Simmons      Covington
PF   Saric
C    Embiid       Holmes            Okafor

I think it's pretty much a given (like 80-90% at this point) that Korkmaz is NOT coming over this season. Let's not even talk about roster space, although that's a serious issue as well - it's pretty much entirely about his buyout, which is supposedly something close to $2M. There's literally almost no financial incentive for Korkmaz to come over at all at this point because if he has to pay close to $1.3M of his own money for the buyout after Philly pays the max share of $675k, his rookie salary scale wouldn't even be able to cover that for the first year. Nobody is coming over to play in the league for $0 or negative dollars when he can just stay in Europe then come over next year when the buyout is no longer a factor.

I know our backcourt would be bad defensively, at least before Fultz develops, but I still love Redick in free agency provided we don't give a long term deal.

Redick is an elite shooter and would probably fit well in an uptempo system with a lot of movement. Given the attention Embiid requires from a defense + the likely attention Simmons/Fultz will command, it would probably make for a ton of open looks for JJ/Cov.

Defense and age are certainly a bit of a concern, but on a shorter term deal id be good with it.

I like this trade. I thought BC was going to get fleeced but he didn't. I'm on record as not loving Fultz and would not have traded up for him but I believe if you really value a player and think that player will be really good then you need to do whatever you can to get him. I would have done this trade for a player like Simmons or KAT but if BC thinks Fultz is on that level then this trade was fair. If Fultz becomes an all star and a top 15 player we probably win this trade.

I like it for Boston too because they trade down and get more picks and get the a guy who may be just as good as Fultz and maybe even better. This could be the rare win win trade. If I had to grade it right now I would say Boston won only because I don't see the hype with Fultz. I really hope I'm wrong. The only saving grace is that Ainge is a horrible talent evaluator while BC is a good talent evaluator. I trust BC drafting over Ainge. So since Ainge doesn't love Fultz maybe that's a sign that maybe Fultz will be good.

I have said all along that Fultz is a great fit with us and will reach his highest ceiling with us. I'm rooting for him and hopefully he makes me look very foolish thinking he's not all that. I'll gladly eat crow but for right now my arms are folded. I am very concerned with his speed and ability to get shots off. ESPN said yesterday their analytics department gave Fultz a 39% chance of being a bust. That's not a good sign. They rated Ball the top prospect. Hopefully the 90% who say Fultz is all that and is one of the best prospects recently are correct.

I give BC a lot of credit in this trade. Good job. I think Ainge played this very smart by almost guaranteeing he will get the 19 pick. Ugh. If the Lakers are too good then Ainge won't get the pick and that's what he wants. I think BC did a good job with the protections. I give the Sixers and A and I give the Celtics an A.

If that sac pick has protection then this is an absolute massacre of a trade. Currently it's pretty fair, probably sixers favored.

The Kings pick also being top-1 protected is the cherry on top.
