Paul George would be rental, so the 3rd Pick, Avery Bradley should be enough. Maybe a low first round pick. That should be all the Celtics should offer. Paul George is an expiring contract.

No way you offer the 3rd pick without a extension guarantee. That's just plain dumb.

I'd offer the Lakers into Sac pick and a Boston first and a few 2nds. Essentially you are taking a chance that he stays (which I think he would) and still have the 3rd and Brooklyn 2018 pick.

So you split the #1 into #3 plus PG13 (potentially)

It tells me that the news being relayed from the media didn't come from the Celtics, but it also means we laid an offer on the table for them to accept, not the other way around. Ainge was proactive in trading this pick, again shown by the deal being all but done still 5 days from the draft. The moment Danny has secured an extra asset, we hear the Paul George report that slashes his trade value, and makes him unappealing to anybody that can't contend in 2017-18, as it seems he would just jump to the Lakers. There are very few teams that can claim to content in 2017-18, but the Celtics + PG is one of them. The Pacers 99.9% have to trade him after this report, but his market will be CLE, BOS, HOU and SA? BOS by far has the most disposable but attractive assets of that crowd.

I can't help but think Danny was so giddy when he got the 1st pick because he knew he could pull off this plan with the extra asset. I don't think his desire to trade #1 pick is a recent development, I've got to think it was his plan all along.

I feel that Cleveland can offer a better package, as they will be willing to give the best player by far out of the pack (Love).

On the other hand, it might be wise for Indiana to just tank, thus receiving future picks and cheap, long-term contracts (i.e. Crowder) should be more attractive. If that's the case, let's not forget Atlanta was willing to give 4 future first-round picks for George, so that might put them in the mix, too.

Where does Kevin Love get Indiana? At best it's a wash with PG, meaning they are still going nowhere. They don't make that trade. We are in the unique situation of having both enough cap space for sign a max FA, and have contract filler guys + premium pick/s to make a PG trade work - nobody else can offer that to IND and contention to PG next year.

Between the #3 this year and 18BKN, we have enough picks coming through to give up the LAL/SAC pick, super value to us because trading it could mean returning 2 stars - PG and Hayward/Griffin.

The 3rd pick is not an option. No lottery pick is an option. Indiana will get peanuts regardless. You don't gift them a get out of jail free card

It's still amazing that Minny was able to pull a #1 pick from Cleveland for an expiring Love who was surely going to leave.

The difference between these situations is that George has officially announced he is leaving. What a way to kill your trade value..

Larry Bird made terrible moves as a GM. He stepped down but that was a courtesy by the owner to save face. He was fired internally and deservedly so.

True. Maybe the Celtics can be granted permission to speak to him. See if is open to a contract extension, if he says yes or he is open to it, then the third can be included as part of the package.

So if we trade for George, do we have the cap space to sign Hayward outright? Is that possible? I'm forgetting all the players we have to renounce to make room for max cap space.

Right now we just have to move Rozier to clear full max. If we trade Demetrius Jackson, we can get within 100K of a max and maybe Hayward or Griffin are willing to pass up a small amount of $$$ to help the team win/save that asset in Rozier match salary and/or flip for some value. Note: this assumes Zizic comes over but Yabusele stays stashed 1 more year.

If we want George, the very likely scenario is that we agree in principle, but don't execute the trade until after FA. That way we don't need to match dollar for dollar salary. George is at 19.3 and we can't take back more than 125% in this deal so you are looking at needing to send out 14.475 mill. Bradley is at 8.27 mill and Crowder at $6.29M so that would work I believe. Throw in a mediocre pick or two (MIN 2nd and our '18 1st?).

Do NOT give up either #3, J.Brown, BKN '18 or the LAL/SAC pick. I want George, but he has made himself as risky of an acquisition as can be with this LA stuff, and his market value should be priced accordingly. Nobody is giving up a #3 overall pick for him (talking to others here, not you).

TBF, Indiana would be able to flip Love by the deadline if they wanted to tank, and they would be able to get more value for him than George since his contract situation is better.

That might actually be more appetizing than getting a bunch of low first rounders from us. The LAL/SAC pick might be something we can offer, and this may be an unpopular opinion, but I'd be willing to trade that one for a rental. In no way would I be offering the BKN picks without some type of extension.

Again, if you trade for George and sign Hayward/Griffin to go with Horford, Thomas and Brad Stevens, why the hell is he going to leave to go play with Lonzo Ball and D'Angelo Russell? I don't buy that for a second. Guy just wants to win. Build a contender here and he'll re-up.
