It's not mortgaging the future, but that LAL/SAC pick has a pretty damn good shot at being top 5 unless there's bad protections on the Kings part of it in '19 that haven't leaked out yet. I think the George situation is risky enough that it shouldn't require a likely top 5 pick in future. What is everyone else offering? Lakers supposedly don't want to deal any assets. Cavs offer a 29 year old max $$$ Kevin Love to a Pacers team that wasn't even nearly good enough with Paul George, a significantly better player, instead of Love? What does that accomplish for them? And how high is the value of Love around the league after these rough Finals showings where his lack of defensive versatility is exactly why CLE would push to trade him? Is anyone still valuing him at a truly top pick level after the last several years? I would lean towards guessing no.
I think Bradley, Crowder and some combo of assets we don't need at all like Rozier, Yabusele, BOS '18 1st, LAC '19, MEM '19 could get it done with how little leverage they possess right now. I wouldn't put a potential top 5 pick in play unless George is telling Celtics he'd be happy to come here, which seems unlikely at the moment. By all accounts, you are gonna have to change his mind over the next year more so than getting him to commit to anything now or be real excited to go anywhere but LA now.
