Yeah - Phil handled the Melo saga really badly. He can't help himself but to play coach when he's not one. Everyone knows who Melo is at this point but as a dealer, you play up the things he can still offer to another team to show that YOU value him. Once you show that you don't, your leverage is gone. At this point, Melo will probably wait it out anyway until the buyout or bad deal comes. Why would he waive the clause if you're willing to just pay him and not deplete the team he'd be going to.
Unless Phil can pull a rabbit out of his hat at the 11th hour, this one will be a significant blemish on his record.

I think once we get some free agency decisions underway - and specifically Paul - the melo interest will perk up
I agree that Paul's final destination is our best bet for a trade happening.
