Blame Doc.
"New York offered Carmelo and Sasha Vujacic to the Clippers in exchange for Jamal Crawford, Paul Pierce and Austin Rivers, a deal to which Rivers ultimately said no," Eaves added. "That event led Paul to feel that keeping his son on the roster was more important to Doc than improving the team."

Re: Welcome to the Rockets, Chris Paul!
Hey guys,
Long time Clippers fan. Congratulations on acquiring Chris Paul. As you may guess, the trade has garnered mixed emotion among Clippers fans, but I myself am incredibly happy about it. I have been a season ticket holder now for over 4 years, so I have watched the Clippers and Chris Paul excessively. Let me know if you guys have questions about CP3. I know his strengths and weaknesses, and can break down his style of play pretty well.

Can't say I'm excited since the Spurs are the better team. I just hope we somehow get PG.

Re: Welcome to the Rockets, Chris Paul!
Can someone explain the financial incentive of CP3 opting in and being traded versus being signed by us straight up?
B/c thats the only reason I can think of as to why we didn't try to package Beverly/Lou/Dekker for a first round pick (to a different team w/ cap space). Hell, I don't understand how the Clippers had enough leverage to get a first round pick from us??

Leave it to Steve "Monkey Boy" Ballmer to not understand the term "CONFLICT OF INTEREST".

He can now sign a 5 year $200+ million dollar deal with Houston next summer. Otherwise he could've only signed for about 4 years $150M this summer.
The Rockets did it to ensure they got CP3. No other team even got to get in front of him this way. Maybe the clippers knew that 5th year was truly important to CP3. That's the only leverage I can imagine they had. There are rumors they wouldn't give it to him and it factored into his decision to leave them. The Timing was against Houston, in their mind anyway.

This season his cap hit is over ten mill smaller, and this way the Rockets have the MLE (8.4 mil) and the BAE (3.2 mil) to use to fill out the roster as an over the cap team. Otherwise the Rockets would have had to send out similar to clear the capspace (Anderson would've likely taken the pick, Harrell, and seller to dump, then Lou would have to be dumped) and not had those exceptions to fill the roster out

Re: Welcome to the Rockets, Chris Paul!
Paul, Wade, Lebron and Melo all could be free agents after next season. They have all said they want to play together at the end of their careers.
If it happens, it will happen after next season. Yes, Paul will try and get a 5yr extension after this season, but trust me, he opted in so that he could be a free agent at the same time as Lebron, Wade and Melo.

Re: Welcome to the Rockets, Chris Paul!
According to Morey just now on 790 this was not the "ace up the sleeve" he had mentioned. The Clipper offer came as a surprise to the Rockets and they pounced on it as it was actually better for their flexibility.
Morey isn't perfect, but it is nice to have a GM who is quick on his feet and can adapt (mostly because he's planned things well).

If that's true that's insane in every possible way. That deal is truely awful for the Knicks. Rejecting that is incompetence at the highest level.

Can't wait for that ace. Prob makes the team more attractive as we now have a certified passing PG that doesn't mind deferring to the hot guy. I felt harden did a good job early in games but at times he did take bad shots/decisions. CP3 has enough clout to say, James I got this.

Yep. He saw an opportunity and took immediate actions to make it happen. I swear people always find a way to devalue his efforts whenever possible.

I've never had any problems with Doc the coach or GM. People give him a really hard time. I think he is a fine coach etc. but if that's true it's inexcusable imo.

Incompetence for whom?
Austin Rivers is making 11 million dollars.
Sure, the Knicks would have gotten fleeced and the Clippers would have made out like bandits, but this way, Doc and the Rivers family makes out like bandits, "and nothing else matterrrssssss!!!!"
