He'll have something like $110k for the year.

Although, I guess if you think about it, even that's a pretty outrageous salary for a normal 19/20 year old. Still, this guy will not be living large. By NBA standards, that's hand-to-mouth. Barely more than a D-league salary.

There's a couple of things to add. He can pay the buyout in installments (that's the negotiation). The Sixers can only advertise they paid $650k. FIBA has no way or desire to verify were the money comes from. I also strongly believe that if a player is ready to come to the NBA he should do so ASAP. No better place to learn how to play in the NBA then on an NBA roster. I also believe this is the perfect time for him to come over. He can start to carve out a role with the team as they grow. Verse trying to insert himself after they are contending, which I happen to believe is closer then most others believe.

There's no way that the Sixers somehow secretly pay more money into this deal because the penalties for trying to circumvent the CBA aren't worth it. I believe that they negotiated the payment in installments for Korkmaz so that he has more money year to year, but the total effect on his payday is still a fact.

I don't have a problem with him coming over, just surprised that he would do it because financially it just didn't look like it was in his interests.

Maybe he is betting on himself. If he comes over and performs well, he will eventually benefit the most. Reminds me of Thon Maker's situation, Thon seemed too young and skinny, but he seems to be adapting great. Hopefully, Furkan can have the same results or better.

Why are people acting like Korkmaz is the 1st teenager to come into the NBA thin as hell?

A few trips to Chic fil a with Fultz, Wash it down with a few pitchers of Shirley Temples w/ Embiid and hell be fine.

I think it's because he's 6'8 190. That's incredibly skinny. If gets to 210 he will good to go.

You have to respect the kid for going for what he wants. I don't know the details of his buyout if he waited another year, but it seems to me that he should stay in Europe for a bit longer.

It takes balls to do what he is doing.

I love it. He seems to be a kid that trusts (the process) his abilities to play on the next level.

I understand that, but it's not like he's a big man or all that far from a realistic target weight for a 19 year old kid.

He could add 10 lbs and still be a productive player. Weight isn't doing much for him in terms of
1.running the floor
2.getting open running off ball
3.making open 3's

Obviously It would be great if he was a chiseled 6'8 player, but as someone who's likely role is making 3 pointers and running the floor....I think he'll be fine.

Klay Thompson was 190 lbs in 2010.

My guess is they will give him the TLC plan. Start the season in the D-League and then bring up around January.

Give the kid some time to build up his body and get used to the states and NBA talent levels. I am very high on him, but have this feeling it will be a bit of a wait before he is part of the main team.

Korkmaz could fight for the backup 3 against Anderson. The experience would be invaluable for the future, next Kukocs.

Klay Thompson was solid and I'm pretty sure stronger. Korkmaz looks considerably thin/frail despite putting on weight to get to 190. Both have different builds/frames.

Maybe so, but even if thats the case, its irrelevant TBH. Kevin Martin was also 6'7" 185 lbs coming into the NBA (at almost 22 years old) and was pretty thin. He maxed out at 199 lbs towards the end of his career, and managed to be quite the shooter/scorer.

Korkmaz does not need to become a massive body builder to be effective. He's a SG, and right now as long as he can run the floor and hit shots....he will fill his role.

He doesn't really project to be a lock down defender, but if he's contributing anything on D, its likely with his ability to play the passing lanes by getting steals and/or using his size to disrupt opposing guards. I think he can be somewhere along the lines of a young Rudy Fernandez (Blazer days) and his peak is likely Kevin Martin lite.

I agree he's gotta add some strength, but some people act like he has to put on 25 lbs to become an NBA player. Thats not the case in my eyes.

Anyways,Im intrigued to see him develop. Hopefully he can study JJ Redick's off ball movement.Adding that to his game could really help him become a legit player for us going forward.

That's all true and I agree. Just alarms me a bit to be that skinny.

Sources tell me Gordon Hayward did in fact choose the Celtics because he wanted to flee the brutal Western Conference, but after hearing the Sixers sign Korkmaz, he changed his mind because he doesn't wanna be in the same conference as the Sixers.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — JULY 4, 2017 — Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo announced today that the team has signed guard-forward Furkan Korkmaz. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"We are happy to have Furkan Korkmaz join us in Philadelphia this year where we feel he will be best positioned to develop physically and acclimate to the NBA game," Colangelo said. "Furkan is another talented young player that we are excited to have in our program."

Ok since no one else will say it then I will. Korkmaz will be the ROY. Not Simmons. Not Fultz. Korkmaz.

Nope. ROY. He will star over Redick and be our best player. Korkmaz > Ball > Jackson > Fuktz.
