Have you seen the contracts being handed out? He's still an above average three point shooter who can rebound and create plays for himself and others. For all the crap Melo gets for his lack of defense, he's still a good offensive player - teams pay for offense.
Also, the minimum is VERY different from the MLE (which he should still easily eclipse on a per year basis in his next deal).
Still giving up 15 million and I doubt he does that. I bet he opts in and gambles on getting a contract like that at 35 years old when the cap will increase once again.
It's close though, if he opts out this year, he could probably get at least 3 years 60 mil, as opposed to opting in, then probably closer to 3 years 40 mil, but after getting 30 mil from opting in
So opt out looks like 60 over 3 years
Opt in would be around 70 over 4 years
Obviously, I'm just spitballing the numbers here, but it all depends on what he wants to do
