Melo is a gold digger. He'll take the 30 mill rather than the minimum he'll get on the market.

Lol, what?

How much will you pay a 34 year old lazy shooter that doesn't play defense? Most likely will only go to a contender too so he will need to take the MLE at maximum because most likely all contenders won't have cap space.

Yeah but Atlanta is rebuilding, unless they are retooling on the fly.

You rather have a late first rounder over Klove? Love can get you a Lotto pick and young player.

Have you seen the contracts being handed out? He's still an above average three point shooter who can rebound and create plays for himself and others. You don't think he's going to get at least 15 per when you have a guy like Crawford who passes less, is a worse defender, and rebounder making 15 per...at the age of 36, 37, and 38...?

For all the crap Melo gets for his lack of defense, he's still a good offensive player - teams pay for offense.

Also, the minimum is VERY different from the MLE (which he should still easily eclipse on a per year basis in his next deal).

Well, Bud is a Spurs guy, so he probably doesn't want to "rebuild"

That'd be an interesting trade though, would definitely give us one less team to compete with for a top pick

Still giving up 15 million and I doubt he does that. I bet he opts in and gambles on getting a contract like that at 35 years old when the cap will increase once again.

It's close though, if he opts out this year, he could probably get at least 3 years 60 mil, as opposed to opting in, then probably closer to 3 years 40 mil, but after getting 30 mil from opting in

So opt out looks like 60 over 3 years
Opt in would be around 70 over 4 years

Obviously, I'm just spitballing the numbers here, but it all depends on what he wants to do

Okay. They all play for money. Great observation by you.

You should work for minimum wage if you cared that much.

Giving up 15 to make an extra 30+ IF he ends up signing a 4 year, 60 million dollar deal. I bet he opts out to cash in on one last payday because, you know, he's a "gold digger" and is "about his money." As for the cap figures - next year is at 99 million...it was projected at 102 back in February when it was projected at 103. If the cap increases again, it won't be a huge increase and will simply go back to the way it was before the massive new TV deal came into play.

I hope you're right and he does opt out. That would be best for both.

What exactly are you trying to say? Just saying if he wants to opt out and join a winner they will only have the MLE at maximum to offer because they would most likely be over the cap. He'd be giving up 22 million.

ZERO chance that happens.

Of course he will. He'd never throw away all that money, and he would never get the same as a free agent with only 1 year or 2 years left to play.

You watch the same Melo? Would you say he's a hustle player? And why are you saying Y'all when I was the one who called him lazy shooter (should've used scorer) that doesn't play defense?

Cavs get melo from ny and Stanley Johnson from det
Det gets Kevin love from cavs

We get rid of melo
Det gets a stretch 4/ monster front line

He's not lazy. Just doesn't have a high motor.

That's what you see. But it doesn't mean he doesn't play defense or is lazy.

He's just not a high motor athlete.
