If he has THjr and Ntilikina working out at his gym, it is so hard for me to believe there isn't a part of Melo that wants to stay in NY, even if they are in the lottery again.

I think he will end up in Houston. However, the more this continues to drag on, the more I suspect Melo will not get dealt. If Melo embraces a mentor role and falls in line with a youth movement, how can you totally force him out?

I feel like Melo would be just as happy staying a Knicks as he would be going to Houston or Cleveland.

He's getting brought out if he refuses to agree to a trade I think that much is clear.. The Knicks WANT him out

Highly doubt it.
They will hold on to him and try to trade at the trade deadline. Then he has an opt out clause after this season and 99% he exercises that to sign a new 3 year $60+ mil deal.

Why lock up 2 years of massive cap space when it's almost a certainty he opts out after this season?
Would be a classic dumb Knicks move if they buy him out.

Why would the THJ contract seal it? If anything it accelerates the need to get rid of Melo and Lee. Also, isn't 27 wins what we all want, another lotto pick?

So basically Anthony wins and the Knicks are screwed again? The absolute worst scenario is the Knicks buying him out.

I mean it sucks from our stand point but sometimes you just have to cut your losses and admit defeat. Seems the Knicks are fully prepared to do so if we can't manage to get a trade done

Melo's days of big contracts are done. This guys not turning down 28 mill next year to end up signing a 3 year contract for 50 mill. No team is gonna give a 34 year old Melo more next offseason

I think that Melo can still kill it, but you're probably right to a point. If he goes to Houston and plays at all star level somebody could very well lock him up for a few years on a big contract. Guys less than half as good as him are making 20 mill now. Houston would want to re-up him and CP.

Ya, i also see a stark decrease from last year to this year, and a likely greater decrease next offseason. Money's drying up and teams cap spaces are being tied up, and few teams want a 34 year old Melo at a high price. Like I said, his days of big contracts are done. Melo is 'only' worth like a 100 mill or so (at least google says that). He isnt a Lebron or even a KD where he knows he'll make a quarter billion on his next contract. This guys not turning down a near guaranteed 30 mill to play in NY, which he seemingly enjoys

I dont see him getting paid on the open market. Only paid by some team that needs to keep him if they want to remain a contender (like if he's traded to CLE or HOU)

If he were a UFA right now he'd be getting paid at the very least 20 something mill per over two or three.

regardless they have to make a move today. I believe the NGT contracts expire today...so today is there ability to get another possible asset or two for the knicks in a potential deal.

The Houston Rockets are working to flip their $10M in non-guaranteed contracts for players or assets, league sources tell ESPN. -Woj

Assets that will include a draft pick and whatever Portland gives for Anderson to NY for Melo

Wishful thinking.

Lets say that Melo could have opted out this year. One hand, he has 28 mill guaranteed for 1 season. On the other, he has this potential suitors with max cap space.

Boston (not after Hayward)
Dallas
Denver
Lakers
Miami
Minnesota
Philly

Besides Heat and maaaaaaaaaaaybe Dallas, nobody else is making an offer. I could see Miami offering a 3/60 contract, cause Riley hates losing/tanking, but thats it. And next year, there's even less teams with cap space. The markets drying up; it's not like last year where everybody was getting 20 mill
