Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXIV
parker has played 3 seasons, he has one year left right?
would assume they don't wanna pay the max to a player that plays one end of the court and has had two major knee injuries.

oh, I guess I didn't know top picks got 5 years on the rookie deal, when is the cut off between 4 years/5 years relative to draft position?

My experience with most salary sites is that they include a phantom "5th" year at the end of rookie contracts to signify the qualifying offer since it counts against the cap. Since most players don't play for the qualifying offer, it means that most first round picks go 4 years on their rookie deal and then they are RFA (assuming no prior extension). Some can be less than 4 years if the team doesn't pick up their 3rd or 4th year, and of course second round picks are a different ball game.

No on acquiring Parker for... yet another R1 pick! Does no one have any ideas other than to give away R1 picks?
Anyway, Jabari Parker has proved to be a pretty bad player. Not interested.

Yup, fans have a tendency to over-value their players. I imagine they don't exactly see Markieff Morris as bringing very much in such a deal. Which would be correct.
Fans -- ours & theirs -- also tend to give insufficient value to R1 picks, which after all are abstractions -- not players they root for & get attached to.

I would not trade a first for jabari as injury prone as he is. Not Morris either. Not I would drop a first and mahinmi to the bucks for Henson and Parker if Parker agrees to a reasonable extension before the trade. If that's the case sure. Something like 8-9 mill a year is fair for a 3 year extension. But that probably would not happen

Parker is so bad. Classic team-better-when-you're-in-a-suit. If he can't play a lick of defense in an environment that prides itself in defense, the true physical limitations will always be there.

You can't use him as a Sixth man immediate offense scoring guy? I feel like he and Jahlil Okafor are classic buy-low guys that add a boatload of scoring.

It's funny cause people drool over KAT and Wiggins who are actually just as bad defensively. But I guess it depends on just how buy low it would really be. Everyone could use a 20&6&3 guy.

Hey bucko, I know how to spot fake news. Wiggins is as bad defensively, and consequently not many people drool over him. He just has some ancy fass moves. Towns is far better offensively, and consequently people rate him as a far better player.
Okafor or Parker are not really efficiently productive players. I could see them being such in a compressed and more tightly defined sixth man role that took advantage of matchups. I'm thinking along the lines of Antawn Jamison in his one year with the Mavs, when he was Sixth Man of the Year and his FG% and TS% were far higher than any other year. It would have to be for much less money than they probably want.

Borris diow and joe johnson for mahinmi and 2018 second and Aaron White. They really need a back up center and they are trying to trade diow and joe is a bit redundant on tht team.

No Okafor is bad on offense and HORRIBLE DANGEROUSLY BAD on defense. Add it together you have a contender for worst players in the league. KAT is really good on offense, and he started playing inspired defense after the All-Star break. Wiggins sucks. Jabari sucks.
KAT is the only one of the four who will likely be good (he already is quite good).

...which is why I was talking about defense and a potential "buy low" situation. No one is talking about buying low on 6th man Karl Anthony Towns.

I was thinking about that but including gortat instead considering mahinmi value
Pay your beals....or its lights out!!!
Bron, Bosh, Wade is like Mike, Hakeem, barkley...3 top 5 picks from same draft
mike, hakeem and Barkley on the same team!!!!

There you have it, Gortat frustrated because of Walls poor on ball defense that he gets blamed for, wants Wall to be a better leader and two way player.
Side note: wall busy referring to other teammate as role player and complaining about first team all defense exclusion. This is bad. Per usual, fanbase will throw 33 year old role player under the bus to deflect criticism from star player/leader

From the article:
Wall has acknowledged that his conditioning has to be better to be a more effective two-way player and appease Gortat's desire to see him improve as a leader.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXIV
its a give and take thing--we'd love for Wall to be a better two way player, but I'd let him be terrible defensively if he could be a consistent 27/11/4 guy on great efficiency.
When Gortats offensive responsibility goes down, the expectation is for his defense to go up. The problem people have with Gortat is they see his role offensively has declined (his fault or not doesn't matter) but there was no noticeable uptick defensively. I think its a fair argument. It's one I use with Porter as well--the idea that if you're going to be low usage, then I want to see more from you defensively since you have the energy for it.
I do think with Wall some of it is more horrific defensive IQ than it is effort.

Parker and Giannis both dramatically improved last season before the very unfortunate 2nd ACL injury Parker's suffered. It was fun to watch them develop together. Parker's a tremendous offensive talent, got in the best shape of his career, and even finally played a little defense. It probably makes little sense for Milwaukee to trade him or for anyone to trade for him given the uncertainty about his health and his contract situation. He's expected back sometime in February.
