with or without Melo do you think we would be able to lose more games then Pacers, Bulls, Nets, Jazz, Magic? I think even if we trade Melo we're still better than those Teams and that's not even considering we're in a weak conference and I'm sure there will be some West Teams losing a lot more games because of how stacked they are now.
We need to rebuild but that doesn't mean dumping Melo for Trash we'll be stuck in the same situation we are in now being a mediocre team winning 28-34 games and getting a 7 or 8 pick which usually don't pan out to be game changers. I would look more into getting expirings/picks and if Perry can step in and do that instead of taking on bad contracts that would set us back 3 years than I'm all for it. I'd rather have the cap flexibility to sign a game changer in a year or 2 while also developing our young talents like KP, Willy, Frank, THJR to entice a high end free agent or 2 with the preserved cap space. If Porzingis takes the next step and puts up 22-25 ppg depending on Melo leaving, THJR puts up 16-18 ppg, and Willy becomes a Solid Double-Double guy I can see us making a run at Russell Westbrook Next Year.
I'd also consider packaging Willy with Noah's contract in the future to try and get an expiring as I see KP playing best at the 5 spot with the new pace and space offense in the NBA. He is too slow to keep up with 4's and Willy can't guard 4's either. IF we can unload Noah and with O'quinn expiring next year as well we could probably try and sign 2 Max Players who want to play together since that's the way the NBA is shaping to be, we have to come up with enough Cap to get 2 MAX Players. While our young players are developing.
This can all be a moot point if we somehow win the lottery next year with the 8th worst record and end up with a Doncic/Porter as that will give us more time to rebuild because we wouldn't have to improve from the outside the organization.
