If they don't extend him before the end of training camp.

In 2018 while the sixers can match any offer. Teams can give Embiid a 4 year max deal but essentially a player option after 1 year. So it sets Embiid up for a huge payday in 2019 if he decides to opt out and he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

Can't have a player option with years after the player option.

Offer a 5 year max and teams can't offer less than 3 years.

Not that I want to go into free agency with him. Lock him up.

Yeah, speculation seems to be that they're being cautious and don't want him playing 5-on-5 until training camp.

Hmm. I thought they could offer Embiid sometype of kevin Durant/Lebron James deal. Durant and Lebron both opted out after 1 year

Well they only signed for two years total (one plus the player option)

That's making the bad assumption he would accept that deal and that another team like say the Nets won't offer him a ridiculous amount more and roll the dice on his health.

A Curry-like deal is a lot of wishful thinking.

The thing is, nobody thought Curry was a max-level talent at the time. His MVP level production came much later. At the time, people thought $11 million a year was an overpay for him. The deal demonstrated how much trust Golden State had in him.

People don't realize that Curry in recent years had BOTH an uptick in health AND form.

This is very different from Embiid's situation, where everyone and their mother knows he's easily a max-level talent if he can be healthy.

Well the contract stuff has been pointed out, but the 60 games you stated is the big deal. Noone knows what he will put up with Simmons and Fultz yet.

It is a hard situation for the front office, but you just have to wait. I believe Embiid has the talent to carry on the tradition of the great real centers of the past.....and make the position important again. He could make all this talk of wings and small ball just laughable.

Small ball is great right now cause of GS and we don't have anyone like Embiid on the court, anywhere. Don't get Shaq or other ol' school bigs started on it, there aren't any great bigs in the game right now or recently, they all suck. Its up to Embiid and the freakin medical staff to get him on the court to show it.

Anyone watching GS should have known Curry was going to be one of the best players in the NBA. I did. I would have taken him number one in the NBA draft.
Curry played in lots of games nothing like Embiids
31 games in years.

The guys in Utah and Denver are very cool players.

Good luck with him and your medical staff.

Shame Hinkle is not there. I would like to see what he would do after this season

Tbc, a "curry like deal" under the current cap would still be like $80 million over 4 years.

Man if only Biid could stay healthy!! I swear the guy reminds me of a hyrbid of The Dream n Shaq. Not only does Philly deserve to have this guy but the league needs him to show this nonsense about the C being dead is all made up but they we simply had a drought of talent at the position. Anytime I see him on the court he seems like the best player out there unless of course it's against maybe LeBron or KD.

I have no idea why they included CJ or Dirk's name.

Not sure if this was already posted, but I think his knee is fine... Much more of what we like to see... Jumper is wet, great post moves, moving well, and some nice dunks!

Pray guys! He'll bring us a chip if he stays healthy!

Looks a lot bigger than 260.

Can anyone remember a player so strong and big who had such a soft touch? I always thought that players who were more muscle bound always had less consistency on their jumper.

Embiid's mid-range game reminds me of Ewing. The main difference is Ewing was reliant on turnarounds to create space for his jumper whereas Embiid is often given the space because the defender fears the drive.

There are very few. Ewing was mentioned and, IIRC, Yao Ming's jumper was pretty wet. Even the bigs that are coming up now don't have Embiid's touch (Gasol, Lopez, Boogie) or Size/Strength (KAT).
