Re: Marvin Bagley
I think he wants to stay in LA but will end up at Duke. Duke starts their fall period a month before UCLA/USC though so we'll see. He could always reclassify but not commit to a school yet still declare for the 18' draft or just pull a Diallo.

He wont get nearly the exposure as if he went to college and the money is pretty trash, its basically minimum wage. The D League will become much more enticing if they start offering more money. It doesnt even have to be millions of dollars, but if big time players can go straight to the D league and be making 100-150k a year, it becomes much more enticing.
This is accurate, but not the entire picture. If he went to the G-League instead of college he'd no longer be limited to the NCAA's amateur rule. I'm pretty sure he could sign a 7 figure shoe deal immediately, which I imagine all of the big players would offer in an effort to lock up a talent like his early.
That is a great point if he could get it. I'm not sure that he would get the deal. Because I feel like we would've seen a lot more top tier prospects go straight to the D league by now if they were able to get 7 figures right away from shoe deals. I just feel like a player would've taken that path by now.
It's definitely a long shot. I do feel that Bagley is materially different than all of the past prospects though, and could be the exception here.
Personally, if I were Nike/Adidas/UA, I'd be offering all of the top 5-10 kids small shoe money to play in the G-League for a year before heading to the NBA. If I were the NBA, I'd push for it too as it could be a death blow to the NCAA to their direct benefit.
For the shoe companies, its a lottery ticket, but the rewards far offset the risk IMO. Hindsight being what it was, I'm shocked Simmons didn't consider this route.

Nike/adidas have enough invested in deals with the universities that they don't want to cannibalize it by incentivizing a player to go to the G league. When you think of how huge the March Madness TV deal is, you can see how big an advertising campaign it can be for Nike to be able to say that 45 or however many tournament teams are wearing their gear. That's more of a move for upstart companies to pull, which is why everyone who's skipped college to go overseas has been Under Armour.

Great point.
The benefits of guys going to the G-League and signing with NIKE aren't worth losing those huge college dollars.

I think he ends up at USC. I've heard rumblings that the Duke visit was just kind of okay while the USC visit basically blew his socks off.
Right now I'd say USC 1, Duke 2 and UCLA 3.

I heard USC killed the visit, UCLA starts classes next month instead of in a couple weeks like USC and Duke and Duke was the one walking him through the reclassification.
Yesterday I thought it was USC but today I really dont know, almost feel like its a 33/33/33 split between the 3 schools.

Duval and Bagley have the potential to be the most fun to watch duo in Duke history

More exciting than Paulus/McRoberts?

And just like that I go from a huge high to remembering the dark ages of Duke ball. Thanks for that haha.

He reminds me of Chris Webber but with the outside shot of Chris Bosh.

I see Bosh all around, maybe a little stronger at the same age. Pre-injury Giles really gave me Webber vibes though.

Re: Marvin Bagley
Wasn't really much suspense to this announcement, in my opinion.
Rumblings were that Duke was pretty involved him helping him make sure he had everything checked off so he could even apply to reclassify. Would have been a huge slap in the face if that happened and then he spurned the school that helped him get through all of the hoops.
