And when he opts in, we ride it out until his deal expires and say bye, bye.
I hope Mills & Perry stick to their guns.

At this point in his career he is not a hot commodity anymore. He is 32 years old and has maybe 2 solid years left as a kind of star player. Why in the world is he so stubborn on only wanting to join Houston? He and his camp must realize by now that Houston is only offering a worse player on a worse contract and that there is literally no way the Knicks are going to agree to that. Right now he is looking at another 30 win season and a lot of media drama in New York. If he stays here, he'll only experience another lottery season and further drop of his reputation and market value. I find it kinda crazy that he hasn't opened up his list a little bit. You'd think he'd put at least 5 teams out there where he'd be willing to go. For Melo, having a very succesful year next season is important as it is his only chance at a final good contract. He is wasting everything away.
The Rockets are gonna be strong regardless, and the Knicks are gonna suck regardless. Melo is actually the only party that should be in a hurry to get something done. With a good year on a playoff team he could still opt out and look to join a preferable situation in free agency with chances at a good final contract. If he sticks it out here, he'll literally have killed any chances at a decent final contract.....I don't know if he realizes it, but IMO he is killing any chance at winning anything but also any chance at some financial reward after his current contract is up.
