I get a laugh every time someone says "he was drafted for the triangle" and now that phil isn't there he's a horrible fit.

triangle offense = fundamental basketball; team ball

DSJr. and Monk are all about getting theirs.

Why this is so difficult to understand is beyond me.

Yeah I don't get it either. It kind of reminds me of all the Justice Winslow arguments. Winslow was the best defender in that draft and we all knew it and teams were drooling over that alone. The same goes for Frank. His defense is off the chain, but unlike Winslow, his handles and shot are also on point. For Frank I believe it'll be more of can he run the offense or do we move him to two. I can see lineups with Jack, Frank, and THJ. For people to say he was chosen for the triangle that's actually a good thing for if you can run the triangle then hell you can run just about any offense.

Winning and smart basketball is not for everyone. As stated, dsjr and monk are about getting theirs. Knicks tried that route with amare, then melo.

Let's not bring in **** like that anymore. I want the knicks to win, not do worse like they have been.

no, answer the question. you and others always say this label "triangle player" ... exactly what is a player that is considered a "triangle player"

you just used it, you thought frank was a "triangle player" so you know what it means. i don't, so please define it.

He obviously doesn't know and needs some time to go read up on the triangle and get back to you later...lol

you're not answering it because there is no answer, a "triangle player" is not a real thing -- though if you wanted to list off things on what a "triangle player" is ..

- big guard
- can handle the ball
- can pass the ball
- can cut to the rim
- can come off screens
- can move without the ball
- can hit the mid-range shot

would you agree those would be characteristics of a "triangle player"? if so is that bad? if i'm wrong then please tell me what you think a "triangle player" is.

As to what Melo has done for us, not much. Got a good season or two.

He doesn't seem like a bad dude 'off the court' but if you don't think Melo has undermined his coaches multiple times during his career you are in complete denial. Karl, D'Antoni and even last year with his childish revolt against the triangle and chiding KP for speaking positively.

That's the thing that most people don't get. CP3 is older and it was understood when he agreed to sign with them that Melo would be acquired. Now you have an older superstar with one year left on his deal and an incomplete promise. If they don't succeed in winning a championship, it all blows up in Morey's face and CP3 can bolt to Spurs or some other team. There is a great deal of pressure on the Rockets.

Melo also has an impossible solution on his hands also. If he shows up and is malcontent then he gets a bad rep in Denver and a bad rep in NY, leaving 3-5 years of his new team to completely reshape his image. He personifies with NY and he cares about his reputation. At 33, it's a bad career move for his legacy to tarnish what he did here. He did carry this team for a few years. That said, he also wants to win at 33. So he's stuck in a bad spot. So does he open up his teams? That may be his best course of action.

Care to cite any legitimate source, even a rumor tweet from a reputable NBA insider, to back up the claim that CP3 came here only on the promise of a Melo trade? I mean there's alot of speculation, with varying degrees of baseless-ness, but at least most of them tie back to some report or tweet from at least a fringe NBA source. But that statement just seems like a lie you made up on the spot. And a cursory Google search also seems to indicate you're lying, with no sourcing what so ever to back up that statement. So sources, or lying?

ok let me set the record straight since some of yall are twisting my words and blowing it out of proportion

my apologies for posting those tweets, i shouldn't have posted them here. i will let you guys continue to talk about burt steel for the rest of the year

i did not say frank can't play in any other system. actually think that no triangle is BETTER for frank. i STRONGLY believe that phil picked him because he felt he was the strongest fit in the triangle. phil LOVES his big guards that are strong defenders, and can shoot it lights out from 3. i have never seen phil have a westbrook type point guard (or baron davis, whatever u think DSJ is) in the triangle. so don't come up with that bull that he had kobe and MJ when those cats never ran the point.

am i trying to say frank was a bad pick? not at all. i think he's going to be our best point guard in YEARS. yeah i wanted smith, but that doesn't mean i think frank sucks like other people. frank will be a good player for us. 6'6 guard with a 7 foot wingspan is something to get pretty damn excited about.

im deading this topic, so if you quote me with insults, or try to argue with me, suck yuh mudda. i won't respond to u

NO

If you don't bash every other draft pick:

- you don't care about wining
- you don't understand basketball
- you're not a "real" Knicks fan

A hilarious sketch to be sure, but can you vouch for this statement? Any Knicks fans who can? I come here to lurk because you guys probably know where the Knicks org's head is at with this whole thing. Then I get a bombshell dropped in my lap that Chris Paul is leaving if we don't get Melo. That's something as a Rocket fan, and frequent visitor of Houston insider forums and tweeters, I'd think I'd have seen. I come here expecting the boiler plate "Fuq Houston, Fuq Morey, Fuq Anderson's contract, etc.", because this is a Knicks forum after all. But this poster is claiming, declaratively without speculation, something I've never heard or seen anywhere. So again I ask, any sources anywhere, or is this guy flat lying out of frustration because this situation is likely headed for an outcome he doesn't like?

To be fair:

A. You posted tweets rooted in saltiness towards Frank. You've since realized the error of your ways on that.

B. This conversation escalated when another poster said that Frank was a bad pick and Phil only drafted Frank because he has a nice family. More saltiness towards Frank.

C. You responded that Frank was drafted for the Triangle, which is fine, but the question remains of why people can't wrap their head around the notion that Frank could be thought of as just simply the better player with more potential? Why are qualifiers like "Triangle player" necessary? The statistical projections coming into the draft have Frank as the better prospect. It's not a crazy notion.

D. F*ck Dennis Smith Jr. He's not a Knick, and no one on this board is obligated to wish the best for him.

cp3 is staying. he engineered a trade instead of just signing because he wanted his money which houston no doubt agreed to. if he really wanted melo more than the money he could have just signed with you guys and left pieces that would have made a melo trade easier but he didn't, his priority is the money. you should blame him for this not happening.

Cool, just wanted to make sure that wasn't a real rumor, and was just the rantings of a frustrated liar. Fwiw, I think Melo ends up in Portland after the neither the Rockets or Knicks cave. And I'm fine with that. CP3 came to play with Harden, and he's not going anywhere.

Man this is the worst type of fan lol The last time the Knicks were relevant 1 of your best players was Latrell sprewell. Knock it off

1) Beggars cant be choosers. Ugly ball, smart ball, yall will take any type of wins you can get

2) This league is run by shoot first 'Get mine' point guards. The audacity to say you dont wanrt to win with DSJR. Pft.

The days of cutting and backdooring, and 'playing the right way' your way into wins are long gone broseph

If you don't bash every other draft pick:

- you don't care about wining
- you don't understand basketball
- you're not a "real" Knicks fan

Did I miss anything?

folks are acting like DSJ and frank BOTH can't be good
the saltiness towards him is cringe worthy, honestly.
To be fair:

A. You posted tweets rooted in saltiness towards Frank. You've since realized the error of your ways on that.

B. This conversation escalated when another poster said that Frank was a bad pick and Phil only drafted Frank because he has a nice family. More saltiness towards Frank.

C. You responded that Frank was drafted for the Triangle, which is fine, but the question remains of why people can't wrap their head around the notion that Frank could be though of as just simply the better player with more potential? Why are qualifiers like "Triangle player" necessary? The projections have Frank as the better prospect.

D. F*ck Dennis Smith Jr. He's not a Knick, and no one on this board is obligated to wish the best for him.

A. no. i did NOT post those tweets in saltiness towards Frank. i've already stated that i posted those tweets because i found them interesting and wanted to share it. and i've also stated NUMEROUS times that i'm fully on board with frank and im excited about his development throughout his career with us. you will not hear a word from me about smith this season (only in the BAF threads though, since he's on my team).

B. if other posters feel that way, then that's them.

C. well, there is a lot of scouts/projections that also feel like smith was the better player as well. so i mean it's all opinion wise. i know you're going to bring up the CARMELO stat but again they're not perfect either. they actually put out an article talking about how they missed on a lot of players as well. it's all opinion based on who you think was the better player/prospect honestly. i'm not going to argue on who i think is the better player as well but i will say this, frank has the most potential in this whole draft. which is another reason why i am at peace with the pick.

D. no one is telling you to root for other players from this draft. i can care less about that. but i think bashing them so much to the point where you can't even respect their game is just pure pettiness. that is my opinion

You're 100% right. That said, holy **** the irony. Melo got Melo'd.
