So you think Denver refused Bledsoe and decided to take Trey Lyles and the 24th pick instead for 13? That doesn't sound likely, especially considering they were still rumored to be interested later. We will never know, but my guess is the Suns turned it down. I can't imagine the Nuggets preferred Lyles and 24 given all their big men and young guys already.

AtheJ415 wrote:So you think it is more likely that they valued Bledsoe that highly but were not willing to beat a lottery protected 1st, an expiring, and a 2nd that disappears if not conveyed this year? I would say wanting Lyles, a recent lotto pick with no knee issues on a rookie salary, plus the late first, is more likely than the team simply thinking Bledsoe was once worth a ton to them but then that he is now, after 3 games, somehow not.

I still doubt it. I think Denver was ready to compete, hence the signing of Millsap. They already have a ton of young guys in Harris, Murray, Hernangomez, Beasley, Jokic, etc, that I doubt getting a late first rounder and Lyles trumped Bledsoe, but I guess anything is possible.

Then why not beat that trade now? Faith in Mudiay? It is not like Denver was incapable of beating that Bucks offer rather easily.

It's about planning ahead. If you sit Bledsoe when he's healthy and he's come to you privately asking for a trade in the offseason, you do what you can to move him before it gets leaked out to the media that he wants out. McD already had first hand experience dealing with Kieff and Dragic. He got good return for both players but he got lucky both times and luck is not something you rely on.

He did not ask for a trade in the off season. He asked for a trade in October, which is a horrible month to try to make trades. It’s fine to make a point, but don’t make it on false facts.

It sucks seeing all this Cousins, Jokic, Porzingis talk when I know all too well we won't end up with any of them, and we'll instead max out some scrub like Marcus Smart.

If we extend Booker this summer, is his new salary counted during 2019 free agency or his old since the new year hasn't started yet?

Because if it doesn't count yet, we're currently projected to have close to $50 million in cap room and we can target guys like Kemba Walker, Ricky Rubio, Hassan Whiteside (player option), Marc Gasol (player option), DeAndre Jordan, Nikola Vucevic who can all be UFA if they so choose.

Can picture McD already saying "Marcus Smart is the guy we've wanted from the beginning. I watched him play with the Celtics and he's someone I've wanted on this team for a long time now."

We probably didn't want long term money back. I don't think Juancho or Murray were ever going to be on the table.

If Juancho isn't on the table then the lottery pick likely wasn't. He isn't that valuable.

So when he signs his contract this offseason he will have a PPP contract, which stands for Poison Pill Provision. You can read about it here.
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q91

But basically in 2019 his salary if he is maxed, will be 27million which counts in the summer of 2019.

I mean I don't hate Marcus Smart as a player, but I'm not paying him more than $8-10 million a year tops. If that's what it takes, sure bring him in.

Any more than that and hell no.

I want none of those guys. Rubio is a downgrade over Bled. Gasol is super old. Whiteside is a stat padder who isn't effective defensively bc he sells out for blocks like Rondo, making casual fans think he is a good defender despite being a negative.

Then we need to have a under the table handshake agreement with him to hold off on signing an extension until after free agency so we can go out and sign 1-2 of those guys I mentioned.

Then you pass. Spending to spend money is how you become the Lakers, having to trade 2nd overall picks to get out of horrendous contracts, or the Knicks dealing with no salary cap space despite their star coming up for FA and wanting wins in the next 2 years.

You're comparing a nobody like Mozgov to guys who, with the exception of Rubio, are borderline all stars.

I'd try to do Monroe for Mahinmi, WAS' 2018 1st and Satoransky

Maybe send Daniels to WAS for roster spots reasons

Whiteside's problem sometimes is effort, but even with his lack of effort he is a game changer on defense.
He makes everything around the rim really difficult for his adversaries.

I do not like his personality, but the guy is a terrific rim protector.

His team defends better with him off the court for his career. He chases blocks and hangs others out to dry the same way Rondo chases steals.
