Horford's first two seasons under Budenholzer saw gradual increases in attempts before he exploded for 256 3-point attempts last season, making a respectable 34.4 percent.

“I don't think (he had) the concept of being comfortable doing it, confident doing it,” Budenholzer said in Oklahoma City last week. “He needed that push."

Budenholzer told him that he wanted Dedmon to shoot threes...

"Coach wanted me to start doing it," Dedmon said, "so I'm going to accept the challenge and let it fly."

We can do this all day. Will your box of Kleenex hold out?

I don't think Bud will ask just ANY player, all willy nilly to start shooting 3s. They have to have the correct mechanics to do it. Bud said something recently about 'watching guys shoot during warmings or just shooting the ball in the practice' to see if it's something worthwhile there'

This is important...
Early in the offseason, Dedmon was working with Hawks coaches who wanted to see if he had that type of range. He did, because he started working on the shot in Orlando a couple of seasons ago.

I'd say it started before that, in Philly 27% of his total shots were from 10 feet out which he hit for 36fg%. In Orlando he spent two out of his three seasons there taking 17% of his shots from 10 feet out with his last season in Orlando seeing him hit 43fg% of his jumpers. In Dedmon's lone season in San Antonio his volume of shots outside of 10 feet dropped to 10% but he still hit at 43fg% including a career high 46fg% from 16 feet and out. He clearly had more than decent shot mechanics on his jumper prior to ever meeting one Michael Vincent Budenholzer, you don't just hit 53fg% from 10 feet to the 3, 46fg% from 16 feet and 39fg% from beyond 3 after a single summer of Bud forcing you to ruin your game.

Hawks center Dewayne Dedmon taking, making outside shots

[S]oon after the Hawks signed Dedmon, coach Mike Budenholzer was asking his new center to shoot corner three-pointers as part of the “five-out” offense.

Budenholzer said he told Dedmon. “I want you to be prepared to space and shoot corner threes and just know I have a lot of confidence in you and it’s important to us and us being successful."

...if Dedmon does start missing jumpers Budenholzer intends to keep encouraging him to shoot, especially on corner threes.

“He’s spending a lot of time working on it,” Budenholzer said. "...this is something we believe in and we are going to keep pushing the envelope."

I have mentioned in the past that I am not comfortable with Budenholzer's use/development of Centers. His insistence on camping them out on the three point line has had varying degrees of team success...

From Antic, to AL, to Muscala, to Dedmon (and even Dwight trying to duplicate this skillset). We've already seen Collins working on his 3 point shot in practice.

It's undeniable that Bud has a predilection for all 5 players hovering near the 3-pt line to clear driving lanes.

With a draft filled with talented young PFs and Centers, I do not have faith in Bud to develop/utilize a young big man, particularly Ayton or Bamba.
