Not necessarily. Take a look at this list -> http://www.82games.com/nbadraftpicks.htm

This list only compiles 20 years worth of data (1989-2009) but it's still a good indication that draft position doesn't necessarily correlate with team success. Just take a look at picks #6 and #14 generating around the same number of stars.

PS: I'm sure there's a list somewhere that is looking at more modern drafts but I cannot find it right now.

We already know who are the top prospects at draft... and all they have pretty good chances to become a stars... Dončić, Porter, Ayton, Bamba, Bridges... I would rather try with one of them then win some unimportant games this year...

Top prospects don't always pan out, though. Sometimes the players that aren't quite at the top become superstars. You don't need to look further than Paul George (#10 pick) and Kawhi Leonard (#15 pick) to see that.

Plus, the draft board is going to be different when the draft comes around. Players rise and fall through the ranks all the time depending on injuries, performance and a lot of other reasons.

And to clarify my position, I'm not saying that I will be sad if we have the #3 pick. I'm just saying that we shouldn't intentionally lose to get the #3 pick.

I do... we dont need those 4-5 wins... I would rather take a higher pick...

You just wanted to trade for Bledsoe so we could (possibly) make the playoffs. Now you’re complaining that we aren’t bad enough? We’re basically what the Orlando Magic were before this year. Their young guys weren’t good enough to make a playoff run nor bad enough to get a top pick. There’s 3 ways to go from here:

1) Go the Philly route and trade your young players you think have peaked to get worse and also get more picks.
2) Go the Minnesota route and sign vets you think will make you a playoff contender. If they don’t then you’re stuck in mediocrity for years like the Hawks were.
3) Go the Orlando route. Don’t make any big signings you think will push you over the edge and keep developing and adding (a top 5 pick doesn’t guarantee a star) to your young core. Either they develop into a contender or they don’t, but you still have options.

Bledsoe has gone to Bucks, we missed that train... there isn't any quality PG on market so we haven't options to improve roster and we are not good enough to make PO... only smart move this season would be tanking and TOP 5 pick... much better then struggle to win some games and not reach TOP10 pick... I Know that top 5 pick doesn’t guarantee a star, but still brings better chances than 12 pick

How would you tank? Stop playing Sabonis and Turner? Nobody starts tanking once the season starts. Late in the season they'll bench their vets who are their best players to tank and only play their young guys. We don't have that luxury as our young guys (plus Oladipo) ARE our best players. If you want to bench them to lose games and development time then fine, but there are no other options to tank besides trading Thad for a pick.

We are already tanking... cause we are just bad... only Oladipo and Sabonis are playing as they should... Turner didnt improve his game... Bojan can score but he is limited player... Collison is disaster... we will probably lose next 4-5 games...

You’re saying we aren’t bad enough though. So how do we get worse?
