I could give a rat's patooty how 'classy' Connelly may 'look' to the public; what I care about are results. I don't say this to argue with you; if you appreciate this, then that's perfectly reasonable, and I too, on some level I guess, would like McD to be more 'liked' by the players. But McD has been dealt a crappy hand; one that he's finally been able to 'discard' from. He's made the most of having players that were either Klutch clients, or were just flat out 'whiny'. He's also had to deal with the WORST owner in the NBA. Think about that for a moment and let that sink in, because it's absolutely a fact. And while I'm not who who particularly cares for the phrase "and it's not even close," in this respect, I think it fits.
McD has done an admirable job drafting where we have, and making the most out of trades that we shouldn't have been able to; however, he's had his misses as well, the biggest of which being his most recent if we do nothing more than buy out Monroe. I'd say the IT trade, on paper wasn't that terrible, but was definitely lopsided. In reality, however, it was a Knight-mare (sorry, couldn't resist).
But I would argue McD's worst trades were trades that were 'forced' upon him by 'whiny, cry-baby' players.
Dragic had her panties in a wad because he didn't get to play PG exclusively...at least that's what he says. But guarantee you, me...had he continued progressing (his stats, anyway) as they did the year prior, he wouldn't have said a peep. He had no issue the year prior sharing with Bledsoe, but that year? Forget it.
Fast forward to this year. Bledsoe/the Suns is/are not having a great a start, and, well, here comes the whining again; imagine that.
Point is, all the whining and crying from players, during the season, and McD is supposed to find miracle trades? Of course, McD haters will point to the fact that had he found trade partners sooner, when the players WANTED to be traded, this never would've happened. Really, though? How about the players, play to they're best ability, regardless, and be team players and HELP McD to trade them?
So, for all the griping about McD, you'd think fans would be a bit more 'negative' toward the players, who literally turned their backs on the team/fans, as opposed to the GM, who's trying his best to make his team better? Of course he's made mistakes, but those mistakes were often prompted by whiny players.
