Or you could just focus on what the guards and bigs try to do on PNRs next game. I don't need videos or quotes for that.
That's not what we're doing.
Let me explain to you what you're watching.
#1
Schroder|Russell. Dennis is a terrible 3 pt. shooter. This is the start of the game. DLo pressuring Schro, the screen comes in, he feels for it, thought he could get over, didn't and Dennis took a high % shot for him. One that in his career he's made .575% this season. This is actually one of DLo's I'm trying to be a great defender but didn't scout my opponent defensive efforts.
#2
Shelvin Mack|Joey Buckets. This was was just terrible. Mack is a 30% 3pt shooter, so Joey running him off that line into a 40% was just ridiculous. But again that takes knowing Mack was going to have PT and I doubt we scouted to defend him, so that was the motions.
#3
Shabazz Napier|Levert. This was actually good defense. Nappier is a 47-50% 3 pt shooter, Levert runs him off the line into a shot he makes 40%, there's the trade off.
#4
Levert|Kyrie. Kyrie is too quick for Mozgov to hedge on he drops back and gives up the 3, Levert goes under the screen to make sure Kyrie doesn't have an easy assist to Horford. No chance to get Kyrie. That's just Kyrie.
Now video #2.
#1
Lin|Dragic, after stepping over the screen, Lin runs Dragic a 40% 3pt. shooter off the line, Mozgov stayed playing the passing lane and slept on a potential block.
#2
DLo vs Tyler Johnson, Russell and this is preseason, is overmatched by Tyler Johnson. Acy does a show and recover, Booker sleeps and doesn't defend the lay up. There's really nothing here. Booker didn't help at all.
#3
Lin|Jack, this is one that showcases how GOOD Lin got on his defense over the years. Lin ices Willy Hernangomez on the screen, but one problem. The slow footed Mozgov is there as the help, Lin actually did great here.
So no, it's not designed to allow the 16 foot jumper. No screen defense is allowed to do that, unless it's a poor shooting big.
Please don't insult my intelligence by pretending to know what you're talking about when it's clear you don't. Just watch the PNR defense the next couple games.
Your whole idea is based off Shroder shooting 57% from mid-range. When he's actually a career 39% shooter from that range. Your overreacting to a small, unsustainable sample size. And of course your ignoring that he's 36% from 16 to 23, which is the ideal range we'd keep him at.
