Yoda taught him how to harness the force. Rey has a good grasp of it for someone who has no training, but there's more to being taught something than just by reading it. Take studying law - you can know all of the laws and everything, but applying it is completely different.
She didn't really get teaching from Luke...like, less than what Luke received from Yoda. The books will help her learning the force, but it's not a be-all, end-all teaching product. I'm curious to see how far she's able to advance between 8 and 9.
I am a lawyer, I would know! A new lawyer, but still.
I think there could have been more teaching scenes with Luke and Rey (apparently "Lesson 3" will be a deleted scene), but the scene with her on the rock I think was pretty great. She obviously has a talent that doesn't require a ton of teaching, though I liked her line when she said the force was a power allowing people to move rocks and things. I still say at the start of 9, she's a full fledged Jedi with years passing. Maybe teaching new students.
As am I!![]()
Graduated back in May and I've been working in data/privacy law since. A bit out of the realm of what I want to do, but I'm still feeling things out.
Was just gonna say that they removed 20 min of footage from the film and apparently one of the scenes was her being taught by Luke. The ground cracking was another awesome scene. I also liked how she "went to the darkness." Kinda goes against the whole "Rey being perfect" thing people said about her after E7.
If they end up with her starting the NJO that'd be awesome. The little boy at the end with the broom might have been a teaser for that (even if he doesn't end up going to the school) - just as a way to show that there are still plenty of force-sensitive users out there.
That little kid has to be a teaser. If not it was just cheesy. The minute I saw it and the ring flashed and he supposedly saw the Falcon, he would be a Jedi or something. Its the whole "new hope" thing going on.
