Eh, they're still comfortably ahead of us and their two best players are 23 and 21 years old. They also have financial flexibility and probably a better coach. They are in a much better position than we are.
I do worry about their GM situation, though. That trade to move up for Fultz was egregious and Colangelo has a really bad track record in general. Hinkie built the foundation that gives the franchise real hope, but he got martyred for it.
Whether or not the Philly situation pans out doesn't really change whether or not tanking or building through the draft is a legitimate option for teams to utilize. The 76ers went from being one of the most hopeless franchises in the league to having a guy who has the potential to be the best player in the league, another clear all-star caliber young player who in his rookie season is already better than anybody on the Hornets not named Kemba, a great financial situation, and plenty of valuable trade assets. They are in an infinitely better position than they were five years ago. You can't possibly argue that they would have been better off continuing to try to fight for 8th seeds with Jrue Holiday, Thad Young, and Spencer Hawes. It doesn't matter if Embiids health or something else unforeseen ruins them.
