The Return of the XFL (ETA: 2020)

Post#1 » by FNQ » Thu Jan 25, 2018 6:25 pm

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2755892-report-xfl-will-return-in-2020-after-vince-mcmahon-formed-alpha-entertainment

Presser coming today at noon PST.

Darren Rovell of ESPN later reported that McMahon will announce the creation of the league at a news conference at 3 p.m. ET. Alpha Entertainment confirmed the conference.

In December, WWE sent a statement to freelance reporter David Bixenspan saying McMahon had established and was funding an entity called Alpha Entertainment with an eye toward investing in multiple sports and entertainment areas, including professional football.

How long does it last this time?

Bigger question for me is if Vince and/or the powers that be learned anything from the previous debacle that makes it a viable enterprise this time around. Because that thing was a complete train wreck.

So does he plan on leveraging the popularity of fantasy football to somehow make this work?

I dont think its possible, what with the CFL and AFL already in existence. The problem was they tried everything so fast, the teams didnt have time to get quality coaches/personnel/gameplans going. And that made for barely watchable, barely interesting football.

Now that fantasy is 10000x more prominent than it was in 2001, I have no idea how this idea gets off the ground. Will be limited interest in XFL fantasy, and that is a HUGE drive for the NFL. It will lack the loyalty ties that college football and the NFL enjoy. And of course it will generate absolutely no heat on any legitimate sports network. Its just throwing money away again, part 2

Not even a little, my nephew has a picture with him showing off his superbowl ring too. I guess Maddox was from the area and used to play baseball too.. from what I hear, a hardass coach but a nice guy

I look forward to the league starting up and seeing the difference from the past.
I believe there will be a market for it if Vince does it right this time. He needs to stick to his vision and not the vision others have. Vince screams success as long as he does things his way.

i'll guess it will last a couple years at least

hopefully they come up with some interesting innovations that the nfl then steals and makes the product better

This would have worked better if it came out this season. The plan is probably to capitalize on all of this kneeling stuff. McMahon already said players will be required to stand. By 2020 though, that may not even be a thing.

There's a good chance this doesn't even get off the ground.

I love wrestling and Vince for making it what it is today, but he has lost his damn mind! This has "no chance in hell"

Not only was it a complete flop then, but now we're at a time when I really don't think this country is craving MORE football. The NFL season plus the college stuff is plenty enough to fulfill the appetite of most people
Fantasy Hoops/Football/Baseball fans..

For info on a forum that actually talks Fantasy sports and not spammed with soliciting leagues, PM me. The more the merrier !

I hope this league does well. Personally I think a decent amount of football fans would want to watch if this league starts after the Super Bowl.
