Since Paxson said he's not going to rush into FA, I really think we're going to carry some bad salary for a few years. We've got quite a bit of space to work with.....
2018-2019 Salaries
Lopez-14.4 (he may be dealt, but I'd guess the salary here is still on the books from what's acquired)
Asik-11.3
Felicio-8.5
Holiday-4.4(same as Lopez)
Dunn-4.2
Markkanen-4.5
Payne-3.3
Valentine-2.3
Grant-2.6(same as Lopez and Holiday)
Portis-2.5
Zipser-1.5
LaVine-
That's 59.5, plus 15-20 mill for LaVine. Granted, some of the names may change, but the salaries probably won't.
C Lopez, Asik, Felicio
PF Markkanen, Portis
SF Valentine, Zipser
SG LaVine, Holiday
PG Dunn, Grant, Payne
So, you've probably got most of next years roster accounted for. You'll see a trade or 2. Lopez, Holiday, and Grant aren't likely to be here next year, or at least not long into next year. You'll likely have 2 rookies added here. Potentially even a 3rd. But, its hard to add 3 to a roster, might be better served pushing any more picks into the future. Or use them for a trade up in the draft.
In FA, about all I can see being added personally, is a veteran backup PG. And considering you've got guys to deal off in Lopez, Holiday, and Grant, it could come via return. Or it could come via the 20 mill of space we've got to absorb bad money.
Not even sure why I wrote this out like this. I guess just to see exactly where we stand currently.
You've got 3 guys in your core, with Markkanen, LaVine, and Dunn.
You've got Portis and Valentine as role players.
You've got a top draft pick coming and a mid first rounder too
You've got Lopez, Holiday, and Grant to trade for bad money and picks/assets
You've got 20 mill in cap space to absorb bad money and more picks
Felicio is the only bad contract currently on the books, after this year.(Asik is easy to move for worse money)
The next week, draft, and FA period are ridiculously important, but wow.....This team is in excellent shape at this exact moment.
