That's how I see willy. Vuc is his ceiling. Don't see him as learning defense. That's why I said send him to Portland for their first. It'll be 20s, but who knows
And my thing with Willy is.... There aren't many teams out there who function as a good defensive unit with a poor defensive big man getting major minutes. Really the only one I can think of is SA and they have elite coaching and LMA is good enough that he's passable on that end...That's why I have no hope for him. Having poor defensive big men strains you everywhere else. Like normally I think we could get away with playing KP at the 4 if our 5 was like a DAJ mobile type good defensive big... Instead we throw Kanter and Willy out there and KP feels the need to over help because of it and we hemorrhage open 3s as a result... You can live with bad perimeter defenders. You can't live with bad big men on that end IMO.
And this is where I'm torn with kanter. I like him because of his effort and mentality he brings to the environment of the knicks, but he's not athletic enough to compensate for his defensive woes. But he also makes other teams pay, as a net gain, if they have weak interior defenses.
That's why I said in the Jordan thread, I love him for the fit and need, but he doesn't fit the plan
Basically agree. To go with what I've said in a few other topics
Knicks are stuck with the $ allocated to Kanter and Noah. It's just life - both are overpaid, Noah grossly so, Kanter somewhat so.
Just play them. Both.
I think KOQ and WHG, combined, wind up costing, as a guess, between 10 and 13 million per year combined - something like 8 million per for KOQ (his last chance at a good NBA payday) and WHG, say, 2-4 million (4 obviously being the high side). So 10 million for the pair seems about right.
Kanter should really be being paid, what? I mean, a guy is worth whatever someone will pay, but I don't think because OKC overpaid him, that's his floor. So, what would be reasonable? 15 million? Especially to "stay in the city he loves?"
At that point, Kanter is only 5 million more. Then roll with a Kanter/KP/Some young PF as the main 3 man big rotation.
Or just let Kanter walk and pocket the $
Either way, Knicks just need to move on from KOQ and WHG. WHG isn't even going to get playing time if the Knicks can't move Noah but play him
