Re: M.Scotto: Toronto made Powell available in trade discussions
Where is this alternative news coming from that we can trade him?!
If so, sure get er done lol sorry NormGod...I would find it kinda funny if he got flipped for Lou Will though but I'd prefer Tyreke or Hood.

The player that will be available to trade is CJ Miles.
Everybody is losing their freaking minds. Nutbars and wingnuts have infested this forum. We've become a public lavatory without cleaning staff.

I could see him being dealt in the offseason though.
Agreed. Once his new contract kicks in he'll also be easier to trade for cap matching purposes.

Lol I thought he can't be traded? If he could be traded all this time, then I wouldve been putting him in trade proposals starting weeks ago lol

Unless its from woj/shams/stein/spears take it with a grain of salt. Trade deadline is when everyone becomes insiders

If he is somehow able to be traded here's hoping we get Tyreke or bring Hood home lol

Re: M.Scotto: Toronto made Powell available in trade discussions
Well given that he can't be traded I guess this is BS, or we've made him available in the off-season/draft night.
Maybe if Norm has a nice playoff run he nets a FRP?

Re: M.Scotto: Toronto made Powell available in trade discussions
I always thought Powell's contract was more "poison pill" then "untradable"! As in, we could only take back a similar contract to his current salary but the other team has to have the open space to take either his full salary for next year or at least the difference between the two? This was the problem with the Ross and JV extensions! In short, unless the new CBA changed the rule, we could trade him but only in the right circumstances! Happy to be proven wrong though!

Business is business. I feel bad that he doesn't get the chance in Toronto because we already have the starting 2 guard of the present and foreseeable future...so I hope we can find him a chance to start on another team...and I can name a bunch of team on which he would be an instant starter. And besides...we also got him paid too...so I don't feel nearly as bad especially since finding another home for him would be beneficial for both teams...especially if it improves our present or future.

I reread Larry Coon's FAQ, and there is some ambiguity, but I believe we can - it's just that the poison pill provision applies. In essence, you have to create an average annual salary of his current salary and his extension - which works out to about $8.7 million. In trading him, his outgoing salary for the receiving team would be $8.7 million, but the Raptors can only take back $1.6 million. So normally, the receiving team has to have either enough cap space or a trade exception to absorb that. For sake of argument, the Bulls are one such team with a lot of cap space. But getting a play worth $1.6m would unlikely do much for the Raptors, except lighten their salaries situation for next year (which is one reason Powell might have been put on the market). However, the Raptors also have the Carroll trade exception which would allow them to take on a bigger salary, so a trade for current value might utilizing cap space and trade exceptions, but you need to have a willing trade partner with the requisite cap/exception flexibility to do that. And of course, this would put the Raptors into a tax position, and not just by a few dollars.

Lol, just said that two posts up! Thanks for the double check with Coon though! Cheers!

we can all look at past high lights and enjoy the memories of the first round last 2 years. I still think that dunk against pacers game 5 in 2016 is most important play in raptors history. I'm a get it framed on my wall but we can't live past.

Norman Powell is still a valuable member of the team and he usually plays his best ball in the playoffs.

Thanks for the post. Makes it a bit more clearer now.
Is there any team that we can trade with that fits the circumstance? While also filling a need on the team?

I don't think we can pair up the exception with a player to trade. I'll have to check.
