Blowing it up seems good, but I just question what type of value we'd receive right now. If somebody would overpay for Kemba, then I think we should make the play, but if it's an offer along the same lines of Detroit's, then I'm happy with treadmilling and watching this team crash and burn.
The problem with this strategy is that this team will fail on the court, and the organization will miss on the opportunity at tanking for a high pick in a draft that looks to have 8 potentially special talents. Missing the playoffs and picking at the backend of the lottery is the worst possible scenario
Asking me to agree to trade Kemba for scraps so we have an opportunity at drafting a young player with potential is ludicrous.
Kemba is the best player the Hornets have ever had and there's no way I'm trading him without good compensation. Doing the Cleveland deal where we take all their bad contracts and the BKN pick for Kemba would probably be the saddest day in the history of the Hornets. Brooklyn pick isn't even looking like it'll be top 5...and it's way too late now for us to catch up to the tanking teams.
It is not too late to fall into the top 5....
I am a huge fan of Kemba, and would love to be able to build around him, but the fact is we are in cap hell, and can't get out of cap hell because our players are not desired around the league because of their contracts. When we finally have financial flexibility, Kemba will be in his 30's and nearing the end of his prime years.
Kemba and Marvin For IT, Frye, Shumpert, and BKN pick.....
Send IT to amother team for another pick this year or future pick....Frye expires this year....Shumpert expires afterm next year, cutting a year from the length of Marvs contract...
Our pick top 5
BKN pick top 10
Pick from IT trade (2018 or 2019)
Our 2019 pick would be a top 5 pick after tank
Save 6 million from IT trade
Save 7 million from Frye expiring
Save 10 million next offseason from Shumpert
Dwight expires next offseason (23 million)
That is a total of 46 million by next offseason
46 million and 4 first round picks (2 in top 5) (1 in top 10) in the next 16 months. Nice way to start a rebuild.
