These numbers overlook the hole he has climbed out of with his poor play in October and November. Take a look at his production since then:

Often, especially when Dragic is poor, TJ has carried the team lately.

He was on a 4/50 contract. Now it's 3/44. Next year it will be 2/38. Having been a bargain for years isn't going to make the next 2 years any more appetizing.

The fourth-year can be restructured with a longer-term contract, as long as it's more than $19.2M.

And pay him what? What makes sense for us, doesn't make sense for him.

We have until July of 2019 to decide what to do. In any case, Tyler has been playing well above his $6M this season (& last season) and we paid him the minimum for two years before that. Average it (6/53) and it really looks like a good deal.
he official word -- or at least what supposedly was the official word -- came 90 minutes before tip-off: Tyler Johnson would not play because of the strained left shoulder that had kept him out the previous night in Toronto.
All the while, Johnson, who has taken ample blows to his head over his four seasons with the Miami Heat, kept hearing voices -- actually one particular voice.
So as the minutes ticked down toward what would turn into Wednesday night's 114-106 victory over the Indiana Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Johnson approached coach Erik Spoelstra.
"Tyler came into my office," Spoelstra said, "and said, 'Hey, I'm going to give it a shot. Five minutes, if I can help you at the end of the quarter.' I looked at him like he was crazy. So I called up Jay [Sabol, the team's trainer] and he said it's really up to him, just play it by ear."

I'm expecting Jeremy Lin to not play next season. If that's the case then a serviceable player instead of 12M completely wasted seems enough to me.gom wrote:DoItALL9 wrote:Thoughts on trading him to Brooklyn next season for (cheaper) Jeremy Lin, an expiring?

Brooklyn won't do that without incentives. Tyler has $19.2M salary the 2019-2020 season.
