That tear's been going a lot longer than that and the sample is not particularly small: he shot 60% from the field for all of January, 57% in Feb, and like 67% in March so far. Altogether his true shooting since Jan 1 is well over 60%, and that's 2+ months of sample size. Almost half the season so far.
60.4 TS% since December 31st, 28 games.
Mitchell is .574 over the last 41. Considering he's averaged 22.3ppg in that time, it's not bad. It'd be interesting to see Simmon's efficiency if he was taking 17-18 shots per game.
Mitchell SHOULD shoot more than Ben. He’s a SHOOTING guard.
The other thing is while Mitchell gets a lot of buzz for his athleticism, Ben has a pretty good mixtape of dunks himself. That left-handed alleyoop from TJ tonight was pretty sick...tough pass but he adjusted to it effortlessly.
Everybody is in their tribe. Nobody’s changing votes. What they are both doing is amazing. But to win games Mitchell needs Gobert as much as Ben needs Jo...and the overall stat line that Ben is putting up - as well as the advanced metrics that he is throwing out there (against not only Mitchell but relative to the entire league) should mean more than being the 26th leading scorer.
But hey - that’s just me.
