Mitchell has had a great rookie season and would win ROY in most years but if he wins it over Simmons then they should just do away with the ROY award. What are we even doing if Simmons doesn’t win? He’s clearly the best rookie. You can’t make a case for anyone but Simmons.
Clearly there IS a debate to be had about it. Not just Jazz homers and local pundits. We're seeing it everywhere, by the national writers, national radio hosts, by current and former NBA players, national TV pundits on ESPN and FOX, on discussion boards
, and national media in general.
So as much as YOU want to think "there is no debate to be had...it's ovvvvaaa" people around the world disagree and are having a discussion about it. But feel free to continue thinking "they should do away with the award...you can't make a case for anyone but Simmons." Many people are...if you wanna plug your ears and say lalala, go for it, but the rest of us will continue discussing what each guy is and enjoy how awesome both of them are and when one or the other wins it we'll congratulate them.
There is no debate. Simmons is better than Mitchell by any metric you want to use. If you go by counting stats Simmons is better. If you go by advanced stats Simmons is better. If you go by impact on the team Simmons is better. If you go by eye test Simmons is better. The only reason some people debate Simmons should not win is because they are the ones saying Simmons isn't a real rookie. Clowns like Paul Pierce and other NBA players use that as a knock to not vote for Simmons. If everyone looks at this logically then there is no race. And it's rookie of the year. What was Mitchell doing in the first month of the season from October through November? Simmons was winning ROM back then. Mitchell didn't even turn it on until the month of December. There's nothing wrong with being the second best rookie behind Simmons. I like Mitchell. He's going to be an all star sooner than later but he didn't have a better season. It's VERY clear.
That's just it...It's NOT very clear. That's why there are debates going on everywhere about it.
Clearly you just listen to narratives spouted by those that are uninformed
I guess Chris Mannix, NBA.com, ESPN writers, TheRinger, USA Today, Slam Online, CBS Sports, SBNation, former NBA legends Barkley and Shaq, and almost any other person discussing or writing about the ROTY race and debating it are clowns..okay
