You know what a dumb comparison that is come on man. Look at their stats for this season and tell me why Gobert is so much better. They average the same amount of points on the same fg%. Gobert averaged 1.7 more rebounds and 1 more block per game than Adams. Pretty even to me.jpengland wrote:Best2EverDoIt wrote:Yeah? I think Mitchell will be shut down by PG and play like the rookie he is. Sad that you have to wish for all of for your team to win. I have nothing against the Jazz and they'll give us an exciting series but thats it. OKC-HOU 2nd round. Sorry.anish23 wrote:I think Mitchell is going to show something new this series, i think he is going to dominate.
I also hope Westbrook plays selfish and bricks his way to losses... and I hope PG's form in the last game of the season doesn't carry over, cuz if it does, then its danger.
I'm not worried about Melo, I'd love it if he remained in the court for big minutes.

Two, who are the three stars, I hope you mean Adams. In that case Jazz have 3 stars also.
But in all honesty, its 2 stars.
Adams and Gobert are about even?
Really?
Be ready for more takes like that in this thread.

I don't currently have time to pull out the exact statistics, but the impact Gobert has had on the Jazz defense since returning from injury has been unprecedented. They were putting up other worldly defensive statistics.
The impact (statistical and eye test) that he has in terms of not only altering shots near the rim but actually stopping teams from even thinking about taking them is also huge. Teams shoot significantly more long twos with Gobert on the floor.
Adams is a fine player, I like him. But his impact defensively (whilst very good) is nowhere near the level of Gobert. Offensively I would consider them roughly even. Both great screen setters and good rollers/lob guys.
Gobert is head and shoulders the best defensive player in the league and if he keeps his career going the way he is, will be a top 5 - 10 defensive player of all time.

Forgive my ignorance. I honestly haven't watched Gobert this season except for when Utah played OKC. I knew he was the front runner for DPOY but that was about it. I just think Adams is super underrated. He had an off year last season but he's been worth every penny this year.jpengland wrote:Best2EverDoIt wrote:You know what a dumb comparison that is come on man. Rudy's offense isn't any worse than Adams, but I'm a Jazz fan that doesn't catch enough Thunder games. I've seen Rudy expand his offense a little bit, and even on occasion he's hit jump shots.

OKC has got homecourt advantage, I pick them in 6. If it goes 7 then OKC is definitely going to the next round

This is a close one. I don't think OKC has been impressive at all whilst Utah has been strong and is balanced. At the end of the day, one team is led by Westbrook and the other by a rookie.
In saying that, Synder is a better coach and the Jazz are really balanced so i'd say they are going to win in 7.

Snyder will let Russ get his and try to shut down everyone else . Could see thabo getting some pt on PG

I'm a fan of the Jazz but I honestly think OKC will win in 5 or 6 at most.
Utah just don't match up well against OKC. They have the higher talent level, I think they will be able to step up in their defensive effort and Utah just don't have enough scoring to keep up. I mean if the games are tightly contested the experience of the likes of Westbrook and Paul George I expect will be able to find a bucket more easily than rookie Mitchell. With time to scout against Utah it's easier to stop their offence and that will be Utah's undoing.

OKC won the series in the regular season, but a few of those games were without Rudy or Mitchell. I like Utah's chances. Jazz in six. Better coaching and bench will make the difference.

Thabo is out for the season unfortunately.
But I'm excited just to see the Jazz back in the playoffs after last offseason, think we have a fair shot in this one and it should be fun

These Rudy vs Steven takes are pretty interesting. I agree whole heartedly that Gobert is the better player but Adams seems to have his number when they play.
Anyone that has watched them the last couple seasons will agree

best series by far
Jazz have impressed me more than OKC's mercurial volatility this season.
I think the Jazz are more dangerous with Mitchell than they were with Hayward. Mitchell, despite being an inferior player, seems to have those sparks that are really useful in the PS
Jazz in 7

Again, pretty much an exact description of what we were going against with the Clips last year. If that post was done last year:
LAC is getting severely downplayed. They have the 2 best players in this series (Paul / Griffin), and we all know the playoffs is all about star power. Utah's main scorer is Hayward too, and he has no playoff experience. This will not be a close series like everyone is expecting
The difference is Paul is much easier to contain for Utah than Westbrook.
I also think Griffin is way overrated. Jazz' bigs match up well against Griffin. I think Paul George is more deadly than Griffin. Like Westbrook he will be harder to contain.

To me this comes down to OKC. If OKC plays smart and at their ceiling Utah can't compete. However we all know OKC is likely not to play smart and at their ceiling so this series can go either way.

OKC's advantages: tons of offensive firepower, three stars, great homecourt/fans
UTA's advantages: better/smarter team-play, better defense, better coaching, less pressure
OKC's disadvantages: No Roberson, inferior bench, not great chemisty
UTA's disadvantages: lack of playoff experience (Rubio and DM's first series), limited offense
