Well Travis, you got what you wanted. Bud is out and the ball is in your court. Don't screw this up.

This is the proper response to all that has happened the last 12 months.

I don't love all the moves he's made. But it's difficult to say any were outright bad ones.

They were tough, necessary decisions to move into the new phase of the rebuild.

Could have been better to inform Bud last summer that it would not be a one-year tank/rebuild but at least 2 or 3 years, and let him go at this moment.
At least, with the same other moves, but without Bud, ATL would have finish with the worst record this season and have the highest odds in the draft.

But maybe it's not what Schlenk wants... like I thought some months ago, he can really want to make it like GSW, and so would prefer some 6th or 7th pick for three years, than a 1st pick...

I can't imagine anyone in the Hawks front office was in favor of just eating the $20+ million left on Bud's contract at that point.

And Schlenk told the whole world we were rebuilding this thing.

If Bud wasn't on board, he could have resigned. He chose to stay and be tank commander for season...but, understandably, tried to pad his resume a bit with ill-advised victories in the final few games.

Rebuilding, yes.

:o

That sounds very consistent to me.

We're rebuilding, but we're not gonna intentionally bottom out for the next half decade.

From everything I've read and heard...it was the demotion, change of direction and complete undermining of all Bud's previous personnel decisions that led to [Bud's discontentment].

Bud chose to go. And the decision was understandable.

It may not be intentional but we'll be there.

Just to clarify...you think we'll be terrible for half a decade just because Mike Budenholzer left a last place team?

Weren't we a playoff team for years before Bud even got here?

Under terrible coaches?

Schlenk will hold a press conference Thursday but told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “It’s time for both of us to move on. We feel like it’s in the best interest of both parties.”

according to a league source, Budenholzer was disillusioned with the club’s direction, believing the next two seasons will resemble a Trust-The-Process Sixers-style rebuild.

League executives believed the Hawks have wanted to get out of the final two years and $13 million left on Budenholzer’s pact since the franchise will not try to make the playoffs during that span.

There is no absolute, what I do know is WITH Bud and where the team as constructed is today with incoming picks in the next 2 years I'dbe more CONFIDENT than with a young coach to grow with young players.

Exactly what Schlenk said he had NO interest in doing.
That's fine if that's what he wants to do, I just don't think Bud expected it to be the case when the season started.

Apparently, it doesn't matter what Schlenki wants to do. Smells like Ressler's running the show.

You know they say that unselfish point guards push the ball ahead when they see an open teammate, if Ressler was a point guard, he wouldn’t do that. He strikes me as a Stephon Marbury/Steve Francis selfish type.

Aka I will only pass you the ball if it shows what a wonderful assist I made...

You guys do realize that they have to give mixed messages, right?

Silver, that hypocrite, has set the precedent that if you come out blatantly and say you’re engaging in multi-year tanking, you’ll be forced to resign and unofficially blacklisted from the league.

The league doesn’t care if you tank, they only care about the PR of it. Keep it quiet, pretend to care, and no one will bother you.

I expect that as a fan, so I take no issue with it. Just seems that wasn't Bud's expectation.

With Budenholzer no longer here, I'd be willing to bring Edy back in on a 1 year deal and give another shot.

Particularly if we (miracle of miracles) manage to grab Doncic in the draft. It's clear they have a good rapport.
