You wouldn't use top 5 pick on Gobert? Just asking, because I definitely would. Not saying Bamba is the next coming of Rudy but it's sth that needs to be considered while making such statement as yours.
Gobert, Green, Gasol, Capela, Jordan... check where they were drafted... you don't need a top 5 pick or even a top 20 pick to get great low usage defensive Cs like them.
But he has offensive potential, unlike most of them. Also all of them are really good players. Matter of fact 3 DPOYs.
I "love" how you forgot to add Al Horford, Davis( 100% of time at C ,according to BB reference in playoffs) and Embiid. But they don't fit your stand so you didn't mention them

Oh and what else they have in common? Davis- 1# overall pick, Embiid- should have been 1# overall pick ( went 3rd), Horford -3rd overall pick.
Most success this team has had in past decade- with defensive center.
In general i don't agree with notion that it's important where you are drafted, some players fall for stupid reasons, Jokić and M. Gasol looked like The Biggest loser candidates.
Leonard , one of best two way players in years wasn't even lottery pick.
Giannis was late lottery pick.
