It's a bit more complicated than that, Musiq. We have an additional 20 million total invested in the dead weight that is Asik and Felicio next year, and Bobby is going to cost considerably more next season if we want to keep him. Now that WCJ is in the fold we should probably find a way to deal the trash away even if it costs us Bobby.
It's not though. Asik is only a 3 Million hit on the cap. Felicio will be in Yr3, with only 1 year left on his contract.
And we get to use Mark Bartlestein's good graces and have Porter signed here for a long time on a nice contract along with his other client Chandler Hutchison.
Asik is a non-factor. He's just Jimmy salary. We took him on and created another 11 Million dollar TPE that we get to use until the All-Star break next season. So, we could absorb a decent player into it.
Felicio - well, last season wasn't good for him. But his cap hit is low. And he only has 3 seasons left on his deal.
The real question is if we keep Lopez for this season. I think we should.
Very intriguing and quite brilliant. I thought Omer had an 11 Mil cap hit. How does a 3 million cap hit on an 11 mil per year salary with an ETO for the same player work? Didn't realize we had a TPE over 11 Mil either. Bananas!
Only 3 Million of his 11.5 Million is guaranteed next season.
So, he is basically an expiring contract this season.
Think for example: Lopez + Asik = 25 Million in expiring contracts. In theory that's not true, but in practice this is ABSOLUTELY the case.
Reason:
Only a minimal 3 Million a team has to pay in the next season for Asik.
This has massive implications for a team like Chicago, if they want to absorb bad contracts but good players.
Nic Batum for example. Or, Ryan Anderson.
