Agreed. I think we have a real opportunity in the FA market now. We dont have money, but we are a top 4-6 team in the conference, and have a clear gap for playing time.
Amir Johnson, Harrell, Udoh, along with Noel and Dwight... someone effective and cheap will be available/interested.
The playing time will be appealing for sure. But... with Brown, we are just under $126m for 11 guys.
IOW, we are still in tax territory to get to 15 or even 14 players. What's a figure you think we can afford to pay a FA Center?
Well, we are about 4.5M over with a 12 man squad. Assuming we want to stay under (which is very important to staying out of repeater tax for the next few years), then another trade needs to occur as simply trading Smith/Meeks for cap space might be just short... very close.
Outside of trading one of our 3 stars/max contracts, it appears Mahinmi + asset (Oubre or 1st) is the way to go
Mahinmi + Oubre for Asik/Felicio + Portis
Mahinmi + Oubre for Dudley + Bender
Mahinmi + Oubre for Koufos + WCS (Probably my favorite... great fit)
All of those give us the flexibility to add a Center and other Vets and still be under the tax. We also could make a deadline deal by trading any of Smith/Meeks and cash for cap space if need be
Assuming the Kings trade.
Wall / Lawson
Beal / Rivers / Brown
Otto / Sato / Brown
Morris / Scott / Robinson
WCS / Koufos
