Well, first off Lavine is probably going to cost you a good chunk more than Smart will--in no small part because the Bulls are WAY under the cap too.
Second off, the big difference I see in Lavine vs. Smart is that if you sign Lavine either he or Buddy/Bogdan would have to play out of position and guard bigger, stronger players. Smart, while shorter than all 3 aforementioned players, is built like a tank and CAN guard most 3s.
Third, I think if you look at Smart and Lavine you see 2 guys who can play make at maybe a near equal level so it comes down to whether you want a defensive guy with a motor or a (probable) shooter/scorer. I'm more inclined to go with the latter because guys like Smart tend to be on winning teams whereas guys like Lavine don't (but have much better stats).
