Definitely paints the contract in a different light, really his ACL is the biggest concern. Pre-ACL, the way he played in Minny, I'm fine with it. He wasn't terrible until his post ACL year w/ Chicago.

It's $5M per year more than I would have liked...but ultimately Chicago can't sign anyone for that difference of $5M per year that lands us a championship. Really the cost hit of this is we can absorb less in terms of bad contracts. And it looks like we're not even doing that at all.

By all possible metrics

Even before his ACL, he wasn't good.

In fan hibernation since my favorite player got traded and other fans didn't want to hear my dismay. ;-)

Still love the Bulls oh so much. Following the Sixers more closely these days since I live on the EC and my kids support the team. Really like the Sixers' direction minus Colangelo's short-lived idiocracy. But of course the Bulls will always, always be #1.

Hope you're doing well.

Happy to see you back, you’ve been missed.

Please don’t let the pollyanna’s run you off again. It’s no more their team than yours.

I'm very happy Zach is back! I really feel like he belongs on the Bulls with that core. I want to see that team grow. I was bummed when I thought he would go the Kings. You guys will see next season, Zach is worth it! In two years that contract will seem good.

Please explain this reasoning. And please do take into account the financial concept of "sunk costs."

You can always trade him considering how young he is. There will always be a GM willing to take on the risk of a 25-26 year old Lavine. And if it pans out, then good thing we matched.

Complete nonsense. Trading 19 million dollar a year contracts is incredibly difficult. If the Bulls are looking to trade him, it means he hasn't lived up to that contract.

The rest of the league is laughing now, and you think the Bulls can trade the contract after he fails even more? No one can believe this.

The ACL isn't the problem. The complete lack of basketball IQ is the problem.

Good match by you guys, after next season you will quickly realize he is underpaid.

And that's not even comparable either.

Rose was amazing before his torn ACL.

Lavine was literally the exact same player as he is now.

LaVine haven't improved his game in his 4 season's in NBA. He haven't improved his game during the time players should learn quicly. Why would anyone think he could improve his game in the future when he finally got paid huge money. What you saw will be best you will ever get from him (shooting will go nearer the Minnesota level, but that's all). It is nice to see someone is positive about him, but there are lots of players who are just happy to get to the nba and are not willing to do any true work to improve them selves and sadly I think LaVine belongs to this category.

How is this PR based? the PR move would of been to not match the offer.

It's simple.

Most casual fans saw Lavine as the main asset from the Butler trade.

Letting him walk can be construed as a poor PR move.

I like this move by the FO. At 23, Zach has a potentially big upside, is exciting to watch, and fits well with the youth movement. And if he doesn't pan out, he'll still be relatively young toward the end of his front-loaded contract which gives him some trade value.
