Can someone outline our capspace next summer. If $45M is the number then you have room for 1 MAX and another solid guy (if anyone comes).

One max plus 8-9M leftover. As opposed to 2 maxes (hi Jimmy and kyrie. Bye Jimmy and kyrie)

We were never getting them any way.

No... but I'd give him more than a puncher's chance.

Be excited! I've watched this dude live multiple times and he easily has been the best athlete on the court each time I watched him.

I'm still excited about Tyrus Thomas' athleticism and potential.

Hey, if you see the same thing in Zach LaVine and Tyrus Thomas, I can't do anything for ya ;)

No joke, I'd take 2008 Tyrus than 2018 Zach if that could happen.

Bulls still have room for 2 MAX guys next off season and most likely they will end up landing 1 or none at all. Bulls are in a good position with good young players who have the potential to be all-stars.

Yes, all Bulls fans will be happy if Lavine becomes a star.

We can make an educated guess based off what he's done so far in his career about his star potential, and many don't see it.

I have no problem being wrong, and for the sake of this team I hope I am, but I don't think Lavine will be worth the money he's being paid.

Agreed. Kristaps Porzingis is 'a star.' Where does that leave the Knicks? "Further into their rebuild"?

Carmelo is 'a star.' Where does that get OKC?

Damian Lillard? Demarcus Cousins? Even Devin Booker is only promising because of the Suns getting Ayton and Bridgges, and will they even make the playoffs?

This is an expensive sideways move.

Someone, please, give me an emotion.

This franchise matched an $80million offer sheet for a player that was only seriously wanted by the SACRAMENTO KINGS.

Let me repeat: SACRAMENTO KINGS

If you are supportive of that well I hope that is some sweet, tasty Kool-Aid.

I swear half this forum didn't even want those two guys here, reading that Jimmy Butler Has No Intention Of Signing Extension with MN thread

This was tweeted a few hours ago, so I'm sure it's been posted, but I missed it and thought it was significant:

Just got home. Can’t believe that Sacramento made this offer. Even harder to believe that we bailed them out by matching. I feel sick. Four years of watching Zach be “the man.” I hate GarPax and their ass covering ways.

Everybody keeps harping about preserving our ability to sign two max free agents in 2019 and how the 20m could be better spent etc. Do some research for a moment. I want you to research how many teams have successfully procured to max free agents in the same off season since 2000. I know the answer but I want the 2 Max Crew to do some work.

Look, this is a little more than I was hoping we’d have to pay to retain Lavine. But the fact is the matter is that it’s not a “horrible” deal in the context of the current NBA landscape. As long as we retain the flexibility necessary to offer at least one max contract next year, that was the most important thing. Because let’s face it, if we can’t show sure fire second and third options through internal development, we aren’t getting a max guy, let alone two.

Also, I see a whole lot of butt hurt coming from the anti Lavine Militia that swore up and down that the market wouldn’t command the salary he was looking for. Well guess what, not only did one team offer it to him, but two teams did. So you guys are just going to have to figure out how to deal with idea that maybe you were all.....wrong.

Bulls would've matched anyway

Which tells you exactly how insignificant it is.

If LaVine can be good enough to be a third scorer on a legit playoff team, then we should be relatively content with this signing. Hopefully Lauri and LaVine can be a the second and third best players on a contender and we're able to find that clear cut franchise guy via free-agency or draft next year.

Don't forget about Hutchison. I imagine he's going to move ahead of Grant in the rotation. Will also be interesting to see what we do with Nwaba now.

Hopefully he shows he earned that contract. I'm a little skeptical about matching the offer, but he is only 23. LaVine has elite athleticism and has decent offensive skills which is worth taking the chance. He needs to improve his decision-making and defense.

Honestly, I think we keep Nwaba on a long term contract as well. We value character guys. And defense...he's both of those things.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get 36-40 wind this season. And add a Max FA. Most likely, we'll also extend Lopez next offseason.

Sounds like Bulls are rebuilding the Skiles version of the team. Young talent with experienced vets.

His age and talent should avoid this becoming a Deng or Crabbe type of signing. As long as he can give us around 20 a game on decent shooting, he's always going to be tradeable.

Just another skeptic weighing in his meager two cents. I think we will all regret this contract. I thought he'd be a thrill, but he's such a sieve on defense that I dislike him on the floor. Here's to me being completely wrong next season when he comes out like a star, I will gladly eat crow.

Man, I'm gutted we're matching.

Too much $ for upside in too few areas, and a negative in too many key aspects of the game to ignore.

Lavine doesn't have Harden break out potential. Breaking even would be a win for this deal.

You can't have it both ways.

You can't argue that Lavine is a net negative and he ruins the tank. If Lavine is a net negative player he facilitates the tank.

It's also hard for me to believe in the 2 max boat plan. When have we ever successfully signed a single premiere free agent, let alone two? Year after year, we settle for Boozer, Ben Wallace, or D Wade's AARP-edition.

I've got feelings of ambivalence here as well, but I don't think teeth gnashing/garment rending is warranted. Yet.
