Everybody keeps harping about preserving our ability to sign two max free agents in 2019 and how the 20m could be better spent etc. Do some research for a moment. I want you to research how many teams have successfully procured to max free agents in the same off season since 2000. I know the answer but I want the 2 Max Crew to do some work.
Look, this is a little more than I was hoping we’d have to pay to retain Lavine. But the fact is the matter is that it’s not a “horrible” deal in the context of the current NBA landscape. As long as we retain the flexibility necessary to offer at least one max contract next year, that was the most important thing. Because let’s face it, if we can’t show sure fire second and third options through internal development, we aren’t getting a max guy, let alone two.
Also, I see a whole lot of butt hurt coming from the anti Lavine Militia that swore up and down that the market wouldn’t command the salary he was looking for. Well guess what, not only did one team offer it to him, but two teams did. So you guys are just going to have to figure out how to deal with idea that maybe you were all.....wrong.
