People are only mad about this trade because they wanted IT to carry Orlando into a mediocre season, and an early playoff exit, at the expense of building a real team in the long term.
You could get IT make the playoffs and still build a "real team in the long term". I absolutely hate that logic and the fact that people think that tanking is the ONLY way. It is not.
So you are saying acquiring IT and waiting another year or two before finding a point guard to grow with MO5 and JI isn’t delaying the inevitable? Tanking isn’t really the main point. It’s developing players to play next to the current players that have been invested in with high lottery picks. Finding those players via trade or draft make sense. Signing 30 year old injured point guards on a redemption circuit does not.
I don't get the part where a better player at PG is bad for the development of our young guys. Giving them limited roles gives them less to focus on at any one time, and playing in competitive games gives them more valuable learning experiences than jogging through blowouts does.
