I can respect the intangibles and the fearlessness but guys like Bradley, Crowder and Turner didn’t do much to help dispel the Stevens myth (Bradley was hurt though). I can see why teams would be overly cautious on Smart.

Roberson could shoot 3’s??

Maybe he meant the way Roberson knows he can't shoot 3s so he attempts less than 1 a game and hits 54% of the shots he takes.

The old play within yourself and let the guys who can play offense create strategy.

I wonder if we can tell anything about posters' psychological profiles based on which thread they're spending more time in.

Kawhi posters are optimists and Smart posters are pessimists?
Kawhi posters are grass-is-greener and Smart posters are stay-at-home?
Kawhi posters are masochists and Smart posters are pugilists?

I flip back and forth with both, but have been much heavier in the Kawhi threads. The Kawhi situation also is for fans who enjoy a good mystery/drama. :)

Smart is "our guy" until he isn't or won't be. And in a way I still kinda expect him to eventually be back even though this process is moving at the pace of an ox cart.

I feel like Williams is an obvious candidate.

That or everyone converges on Morris.

We won't see much of Williams in his rookie season to have strong opinions on him one way or the other.

Granted.

He's more love him one game, hate him the next kind of guy. The fanbase isn't divided and doesn't have too many disagreements about him (unlike Smart/Rondo/KO) as far as I've seen.

I sure had the sense he was. No, not to the same degree as guys like Smart or KO, but thirtyfour's question was who would be the next guy to rise to that level if Smart leaves, not who's already there.

Anyway, Rozier is certainly a serious contender too.

I'll submit Wanamaker as a true darkhorse. I have this sneaking suspicion, based on absolutely nothing, that's he's going to be a little more aggressive about "getting his" than Larkin was.

If the Nets really want to sign-and-trade for Smart, this is the only Net who works in a similar salary level.

Lin = championship.

And 1 for the vintage Harvard pic.

Watched a lot of Lin games in person at Laivetes when my daughter was a cheerleader there. Great talent.

Ammaker has done a great job turning that program around at Harvard. Imagine if he had gotten Wendell Carter and/or Bamba there for this past year.

Edit: That pick looks like Conte, not Laivetes, though.

Celtics fans will mostly attack Al Horford (over paid! soft! claps and smiles! coasts in the regular season at times!) and Smart/Morris/Rozier (on bad shooting nights mostly) or any backup who comes in and sucks. Smart/Rozier will often be targets too since many Celtics fans are split in who they prefer of the two. Can't be a fan of both, PICK A DAMN SIDE. And when either can't shoot well in a game, the claws come out.

The general forums and other fanbases will more likely attack Kyrie. A lot of Lebron stans out there in hiding and they go insane on anything Irving related. Any negative rumor they can find or any missed shot in the 4th by him and it's Christmas.

Occasionally non Celtics fans go after Horford too. Probably will go after Gordon Hayward too this year, or the Jazz fans will since they can't help but sometimes take a cheap shot.

Then you got the butt hurt Philly fans who will do whatever it takes to prop up Ben Simmons over Jayson Tatum. "Tatum is good, but Simmons is a generational talent damnit and Fultz can still work out!!!!".

lot of cavs fans who diss on Kyrie as well. Salt is real over there. Like every thread about Gordon Hayward is followed by jazz fans throwing salt.

Backup PG wants 12-15 mil per year. Remember Wyc’s cutting the checks.

He was thinking more along the lines of absorbing bad salary to acquire picks from teams who want to reduce tax or create space. Melo, Parsons, Deng, etc.

The biggest rumor is that they will absorb Melo for pick(s). Then he gets bought out and signs with Houston.

Agree in theory, but Marcus would be dumb to take a deal *that* low. A 3-year MLE next year is his floor.

The longer this goes, the more Smart isn't gonna stay long-term.

He is in a bit of a vulnerable phase atm coz' of his mom and i fear that he is likely to make unwise decisions because of this.

Here's hoping his teammates rub some sense into him before he regrets it. Fact is, he isn't dependable offensively on the court during an NBA game. He can shoot during practice, i dunno what's distracting him from shooting well during the game. He needs to accept that reality and manage his expectations. Whatever his agent is feeding him, puke it out.
