I voted mmmm, no. From a Grizzlies fan perspective, that contract feels alot like the one we gave Rudy Gay a long time ago.

Hellll no. Franchise player who sports negative advanced stats? Even if you take bad franchise players like Carmelo, Iverson, McGrady or his cousin, they all have been positive on the floor. As we move further in the depths of the worst franchise players ever, we still find that Gilbert Arenas or Michael Redd never had terrible stats like this. Stephon Marbury is probably the best comparison to Booker in terms of a franchise player value and as Marbury, Booker have all the tools to become Beijing Ducks star in near future.

In his defense it's pretty hard to progress from dropping 70 lol

Re: Is Devin Booker a Franchise Player?
Booker is so young. Sometimes we forget if he was growing up in the 90's he'd still be in school, guys were Rookies at 22. Players like Iverson and Ray Allen didn't hit their strides until 23-24.
He wasn't a horrendous defender at Kentucky, played pretty well in team concepts ala JJ Redick, Kyle Koorver...with a bit more lateral quickness and potential. I think by 25-28 he won't be considered a stopper, but won't be a liability either.
I think his potential is a Allan Houston 3.0/Reggie Miller with a little bit more play making ability...Could be the man on a 45-55 win team but ultimately terrific 2nd/3rd option on a Championship roster.
He's not a knuckle head, by all accounts a well grounded kid, came up with solid parental guidance...for those who think this doesn't matter I know of a San Antonio Spurs scout and Patriots & Steelers scouts who are VERY weary of drafting players from single mother households. His Father held him to very high standards growing up, strikes me as a player who will look to improve upon something every summer like Kobe, Dirk did.

For some reason he can't will his team to extra wins. You guys want to compare him to harden but harden led his team to the playoffs his first year in houston.

If you thought Ray Allen was a franchise player than sure

Simply put, he might not be as good as harden, or is a different player from harden, or could do it in his 4th season since that's the season you're referring to where harden led his team to the playoffs

Kobe, Lebron, TMac, etc. at Booker’s age were all plus defenders.
Don't think it's necessary for a player to play good defense to be considered as a franchise player.
Harden plays no defense.
Devin Booker shows no signs of providing the offensive lift that a guy like Harden gives you. Not really fair to compare the two.
21 years old Booker vs 21 years old Harden per 36 minutes:
Booker 26.0 pts, 4.9 ast, 4.7 reb, .432 FG%, .383 3P%, .878 FT%
Harden 16.4 pts, 2.9 ast, 4.2 reb, .436 FG%, .349 3P%, .843 FT%

No he's one of the most overrated players in the NBA.
Average efficiency volume scoring (no real value), doesn't make teammates better, one of the worst defenders in the NBA.

Re: Is Devin Booker a Franchise Player?
Not well rounded enough to be a franchise player yet, but his improved playmaking at least makes it possible someday. Certainly has the ego of a franchise player though, and that alone might keep him from going down the Kevin Martin empty stats path. Booker wants to impose his will, it's just mostly as a volume scorer right now.

yes with better support. his raw stats are impressive but then you see that it might also be mostly due to lack of talent/production from the rest of the team

Re: Is Devin Booker a Franchise Player?
a franchise player can impact wins. Booker doesn't do that. "help" is irrelevant. the definition of "franchise player" is that they can carry the franchise without all-star help.
Lebron, Harden, AD, Giannis - these guys have proven that even without all-star teammates they can drag a team to the playoffs.

Re: Is Devin Booker a Franchise Player?
As a first option player, probably not. He could be a good 2nd option on a contender. He could make a leap, but it better come in the next 2-3 season.

Fair game to him, he got it against us and I'm not hating, but if you watched that game, it was blatantly disgusting if you're trying to teach a young team to win. He basically shot half of his team's shots and more than 50% of em in the 2nd half. They started fouling us being down 4-5 points with a min to go so he can shoot more. This is not how winning is supposed to look.
Will be interesting if Booker is capable of at least carrying the Suns to a "near playoff run". They are paying him superstar money.
Good assessment:

Re: Is Devin Booker a Franchise Player?
no one cares that he put up 24/5/5 on a 21 team..
yes, he is skilled, but guys that put up huge numbers on bad teams are a dime a dozen .. just play fantasy bball for a year and watch how easily guys with bad teams put up stupid numbers when they get the minutes/shots
true franchise players put non-star players on their backs to 50+ wins (in addition to the numbers):
lebron, cp3, harden of recent .. jkidd in NJ.. ewing in nyc .. etc etc
he obviously can (and will) improve, but it is rare that franchise-type studs aren't extremely apparent out of the gate
