Re: Cutdown to 53 - Packers and NFL - Mack to Bears Pending
Well, the Bears topped our offer for him, even if we offered two firsts. I'm still surprised that a team gave up two firsts, and the Bears are a weird choice because they're still, at best, the third best team in this division with Mack.
But whatevs. I'm just glad he didn't go to a contender.

Really not a need for a FB in today's game no matter how much McCarthy wants one.

The value only ever made sense for a contending team. McKenzie fleeced Chicago.
It's going to be a lot of pressure on Trubisky, if he really sucks then they will probably look dumb for doing this. If he's their guy at QB then I disagree with you. Mack warrants an exception to conventional wisdom imo.

In looking at how differently they're building around Mitch vs how they built around Cutler I feel like there's significantly less pressure on Mitch than there was on Jay. They literally surrounded Jay with nothing outside of Forte, gave him multiple offense coordinators over the years and even traded Greg Olsen because he didn't fit with Martz.
Mitch has Howard/Cohen at RB, an offensive HC and we'll see what's up with Mark Helfrich as an OC in the NFL. At WR/TE they've put in a lot of work over the past 2 off-seasons and they're going to go from easily the worst WR core in the NFL to having A-Rob, Gabriel, Anthony Miller (you guys are going to hate this guy, he's going to be a star), Trey Burton, Shaheen and even Kevin White showed something this preseason.
Having an elite defense + high end running game + plenty of playmakers on the offensive side of the ball will really help Mitch ease into being a franchise QB. Having him on his rookie deal sets us up to make a move like this to go all in.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Two first round picks plus a player for the right to pay him 24 million?Turk Nowitzki wrote:MickeyDavis wrote:Sounds like Davante thought Mack was headed north
That's how I interpreted that, makes it seems like maybe the Packers thought they were going to pull it off which makes it sting just a bit more.
With that as the price I applaud Chicago for outbidding Gute and saving him from himself

We'll see about who the player is, I haven't seen any real confirmation of that online.
I guess I don't get the hang up on the picks or the money (unless it was actually impossible for us to pay him that much, not a much of a cap guru). What are the chances that two likely late first round picks are going to make a greater impact over the next few years than Khalil Mack? Incredibly unlikely in my view. I don't know maybe something just snapped finally but I'm tired of playing it safe.

Has Ahmad Thomas been mentioned among the cuts?

Not sure if you were asking or mentioning it because it was just reported, but yeah he got cut.

Interesting... thought we'd keep 4 with Oren out for a few weeks.

We've been your bitches for 10 years now. If you're in a spot to get a constant DPOY candidate in his prime, you go ahead and do it and never look back. Elite pass rushers stay elite for years (look at Peppers still doing his thing in his late 30s), I think this gives us a shot.
The thing I like about Pace is he goes out and gets his guy. In the 2014 draft, Emery was 1 pick away from getting Aaron Donald. We wound up with Kyle Fuller instead. Pace has had 100% conviction on Leonard Floyd, Mitch and Anthony Miller and we'll see if he's right on these guys but I appreciate his conviction.

Really?
Well to lead off 24 million in cap space is generally enough cap for 3 good starting level caliber players. If Gute even lands only a single quality guy in round one that's 4 good starters for the price of acquiring Mack at minimum.
And yes 4 good starters would be better value and greater impact then only having Mack. Not only does it not put all your eggs in one basket but Mack alone doesnt make a pass rush good as we saw last year with the Raiders their pass rush was horrible and that was with Mack.

Ahmad Thomas makes sense as a cut if you have a guy who can play emergency ILB in an injury situation. I think that Clay can move over.

Yeah I have the JS live blog up and I'm not sure if they go in order but I looked at it and saw Ahmad Thomas and thought his name was new. Looks like they go in order just based on when the names were posted here and when they're posted on there.

Have we cut a receiver yet? It is starting to look like there is a chance we keep 8.
