Agreed. Oubre to a capped out contender works best so they have RFA rights on him.

Very Ernie -- guy goes undrafted, & instead of signing him you get him in a trade 4 months later!
However bad Houston's start, lets assume that the R1 you'd get in the deal would be very low. In which case, to add the "Ernie-ness," we'd be trading the #19 pick in the 2015 draft, plus a mid-R2 pick that year, for a low 2019 R1 pick & a guy you could have had for free.
Like I say, very Ernie.

Probably so, but it's much better than losing Oubre for nothing - which will likely happen next offseason. It might be smarter to make it a 2020 pick. Hey, they say hindsight is 2020, so maybe there's a benefit there.

Agree with Ruz.
EG sucks, but you cant discount control. Simply put, you have to pay a significant increase to retain good players going into their 2nd contract. If that player isnt a star, then you're better off cashing in on them before they walk or force you match a bad contract.
The Bucks would of been Way BETTER off trading Parker last year, or the Spurs with Kyle Anderson.
Im not speaking to the Rockets trade per se, but the thought process behind it.
They are missing Ariza and defense on the wings. They don't have a big who can space the floor.Chocolate City Jordanaire wrote:The Rockets are off to a horrible start. Here's a very doable idea.

-Wiz get Mike Conley
-Wiz trade Wall (add in Rivers to make salaries work)
Memphis gets a name to put in bright lights, which they’re in dire need of. And Wall’s 5 year contract means he’s not going to bail on them.
Washington gets the anti-Wall: a mature leader to pull the team together, and turns Wall’s monstrous 5 year deal into a better 3 year one.
Why wouldn’t we do this?

Gets us under tax this year.

Howard
Bench: MLE, 2 1st round picks, Brown, Diallo, Green... Bi-Annual exception too
That MLE and 2 picks could be a nice reboot... and still doesnt jeopardize a full rebuild should we so choose

McLemore is one of the few guards in the league as bad as (maybe even worse than) Austin Rivers. Wes Johnson can't play. Diallo is extremely limited. That team misses the playoffs. Ok with you?pcbothwel wrote:...

Sato becomes our starting 3 -- ? Otto is a full-time 4 -- ? Why do we re-sign Diallo?
Plus, we have not solved our core problem of 3 enormous salaries.
Btw, I would play Bryant over Diallo; you don't mention him.
Gordon is going to be traded in order for that team to replace the defensive intensity lost when both Ariza and Mbah ah Moute departed.Dat2U wrote:Chocolate City Jordanaire wrote:The Rockets are off to a horrible start. Here's a very doable idea.

They don't want to include Eric Gordon in a deal for Jimmy Butler but they'll suddenly take our poo poo platter for him? I think not.

The problem is that this puts us at $142m next year -- way over the tax w/ 10 players.
