I'd like to give Sean Marks the evil genius award for making Ernie Grunfeld walk the plank with that Otto Porter offer sheet
I was just thinking to myself the other day-- how often has "win now" led to a NBA championship or even a strong result, in recent decades?
Note: I don't count the LeBron-led championships that way, because that's moreso a gamble to surround the greatest player in the game with talent commensurate equal to a good, solid shot.
Meanwhile, the Shemp Curry teams were exquisitely built, and arguably never needed KD's bitch-ass addition to do what they've done (IMO). And, the Duncan and Dirk teams are pretty much beloved, fairly organic champions... so, I'm not sure there's any traction there, either.
All of which takes me back to a particular strain of madness I'm seeing amongst Nets fans, i.e. those hoping to sign two max contracts this summer and imagining that Gandalf & Harry Potter's magic wands will somehow turn that in to a magical result.
