Luka Doncic has been selected as Sportsperson of the Year in home country Slovenia two days ago.

I thought to mention it as some time ago someone in this thread I think showed interest if Slovenian media reports about success of Luka Doncic. Yes, they do after every game although most reports come as reposts from US media.
Some of us wake up around 2:30am or even don't go to sleep in order to follow Dallas Mavericks games. I also noticed few fellow slovenians in this thread. Seems like Mavericks fanbase increased with his arrival to the US :)

Hah, no no... Mavs deserve more to win a ring than the Lakers. Plus everyone loves to play with a guy like Luka, who can feed them with easy baskets and who is capable of closing out games all by himself. So i have a feeling that Mavs will become a very desirable FA destination in a year or two.

If it's any indication that Doncic has a similar game to Ben Simmons, then I do think Doncic would be most effective with a dominant big man like Embiid who he can feed the ball to every time.

When Wes and DJ walk next summer, maybe we can tank again if there is a dominant big man available in the top 3. A Deandre Ayton type would be perfect. Paying DJ $25M a year for the next five years would be cap room suicide.

It's funny how Wes and Brunson raised their arms up when the ball was half way there :D

Matthews does that quite often, he seems to really enjoy playing with Luka

Without Barnes and Matthews requiring a certain number of minutes/touches to keep them happy or to justify the amount they're being paid. With Luka we may see Harden-esque type of numbers. With Dennis as a number two option we may see improvement there too.

Just surround them with shooters and defenders. Signing Aminu and DFS back can work wonders as those two dont require specific plays ran for them unlike Barnes' required number of iso plays per game to justify that $26M price tag.

C- Jordan
PF- Doncic
SF- Aminu
SG- Finney Smith
PG- Smith Jr.

You need more than 2 scorers. If you play that lineup, the defense won't allow Doncic or DSJ to ever get a shot off. That is why someone like Harrison Barnes is VERY valuable as a 3rd or 4th option. Barnes has shown the ability to defer enough that as Doncic and [hopefully] DSJ prove themselves over the next 2-years, Harrison will become more and more of a role player.

The defense would literally just leave Aminu and DFS open all the time to shot. You can maybe have one of those players in your best-5 lineups, but not two.

I really don't know why everyone wants to give Barnes up. He's been very good this season, except with the tunnel vision when he drives. Again, hopefully that becomes less of a thing as we grow. Barnes is not your Carmelo Anthony style player and I do think he can adapt to being your 3rd/4th option.

I’d like to see Luka become a 30/10/10 superstar leading a perennial playoff powerhouse in Dallas. Whether he can improve that much more remains to be seen.

It's pretty easy to see him improve n his shot selection. And as he gets a 2nd creator around him (hopefully), he'll get more looks. I wonder how many of his baskets are unassisted? I doubt many.

30/10/10 is unrealistic. But it's easy to see him become a 24ppg-7rpg-6apg guy in his prime. And if he can take bigger steps, he can be a 27ppg-8rpg-8apg guy, top-5 player level player. Either way, Dallas has 1 of the 2 players you need to win a championship, I'm convinced. And that is hard to do.

I hope he doesn't make it to the AS game. It's so much better to have some rest.

Lol that's poor reason. AS game is more or less recreational and intensity is low, it's about the fans there. Besides, he's 100% making the rookie AS game anyway. But really, playing 10-20mins of low tempo AS game wouldn't get him any more tired, if anything, it would give him a huge boost - he said that he feeds off of playing against top stars in the league.

Besides, I don't think there's a realistic chance that he makes it, West is really stacked and Dallas not playing too good lately, so I think Tobias Harris would get a nod over him for example.

Do you see Doncic playing the Harden role in the future?

If Smith is moved to facilitate that would you prefer Terry Rozier or Josh Jackson next to him?

Josh Jackson has not proved anything. Not even an upgrade over Barnes. Rozier can play defense and shoot 3s with a little iso-set. That's natural fit with Doncic. It depends on the asking price, though.

****, I forgot about the rookie AS game. Even more pointless activity. I hope they claim injury and get him out of there, even if it means paying fine. It's not about the actual game. It's about everything going into it. You have to actually go there, stay at the hotel, be available for media, fans... If I have to travel to another country just for a simple business related meeting, I am exhausted when I get home.

This is a really really poor take on the matter.. playing in AS is pretty much one of the biggest honors players receive lol and knowing Luka, he'd probably even risk/play through injury just to show up there. He's too much of swagger to miss such opportunity. You really seem to have a wrong idea about him..

Tell that to Butler and his DNP-CD this year.
