Why is it that Spencer's game will be even better with a true #1 in the line up but D'Angelo's won't?

They will both improve with a true #1 threat, but it won't change their roles and strengths/weaknesses, so at the end of the day, they will both be in the same spot as they are now.

Kenny has preferred Caris and Spencer this season late in games.

Caris and Spencer gives more length. They are both better penetrators. They both get to the line. And while not as good as Russell, they can both hit from three.

Not really sure what you all are debating here. We've seen time and time again how much more difficulty Russell has against pressure defenses, which is what he'll see a lot in close games (and pretty much somewhat negates his ball control capability since teams just won't give him as much room as they do early on).

Essentially, Russell has one role in close games...as a shooter. Games he's hot and rolling? He will get burn late. Games he's not cooking as much? He will sit behind Caris/Spencer.

I think the issue was making a mountain out of a molehill so to speak...Kenny is going to roll with the hot hand or match up that gives us the best chance to win, it's kind of just how it is and less than a knock on D'Angelo Russell. As you've said, on nights where Russell is cooking he'll be out there. Last night Kenny stuck with that group because he found them to be most effective, it wasn't like Russell was playing poorly. Some nights its Spencer, some nights its Russell. Also, Russell and LeVert closed out more than a few games together before he got hurt so its not a forgone conclusion that Russell will be eating the pine unless he's shooting 70% from the field every night. He might use all three of them at the same time as well.

Spencer has been playing at another level though since Caris went down. Which is kind of the point of some of the media/social media comments. If he is already spotty as a closer without Caris, then it's not going to be made easier when Caris comes back.

Yep, my thinking is that the minimum he'll settle for is $15 mill/season. Also teams like the Magic and Suns aren't going to make it easy for us. Both need starting PGs badly and will be interested in D Lo.

I think 16 starting (with annual raise) is the minimum Russell will accept and I agree that is what the Suns will offer at the minimum.

Kind of hoping we somehow manage to package him and Crabbe (with Russell going to the Suns, which is probably his 1b destination anyway) to free up cap space for us (though such a deal won't happen until Caris is back).

At the rate we are going, this places our 1st round pick at the right spot to take a Morant or Garland.

How many games has Jarrett Allen sat in the 4th for match up purposes? No one makes a peep about that, does that mean the Nets are going to give up on him as well? Absolutely not.

If it comes down to financials/cap space and the Nets have to part ways with Russell because he is being offered more money elsewhere (possibly) or we need to clear space for two max contracts (doubtful), so be it. But if not, I would highly doubt he goes anywhere next season outside of those two scenarios. Fans may hate this kid, but I don't think the front office or Kenny for that matter feels that way towards him at all.

Personally, I hope he remains a Net. He's been a good kid, as far as I can tell a solid teammate, he responds to coaching, and when he gets in his zone he's a problem. I'd like to see what he becomes when he adds strength to his frame as he continues to mature mentally and physically.
