A couple of more nice games from Monk and maybe we can get a decent trade return from him. If we are keeping Kemba this summer it is going to be hard for him to be our starting 2 guard.

I was ultra high on Monk and preferred him over Mitchell but Mitchell proved me dead wrong. Ain’t the same Mitchell I remember watching at Louisville. Mitchell is already a star player and can grow into a superstar sooner than later.
Mitchell could also just say the same. Remember Tyreke Evans? It’s possible at some point Monk catches Mitchell. If we keep him it all depends on if we keep Lamb and Kemba to whether Monk gets the playing time. Monk catches me as one of those guys who could get hot and rise to another level. At this point, he needs to be a little more aggressive at times but watching him it seems the game is slowing down and that’s a good sign.

Monk has the "It" factor. You just do not give up guys who have that kind of talent and charisma, not if you want to keep fans in the seats. He will be 21 on Monday. Think about that. Monk has a lot to learn, but it is way too early to give up on him. Thanks to Coach Clifford, last season was mostly lost, though I think the idea that defense is not optional did finally sink in.

Mitchell beating Monk in every per 36 category and that’s before mentioning percentages.
Even better look at the major difference in advanced stats. It’s not even close.

Mitchell makes his team better while Monk makes his team worse.
I hope Monk grows into a positive player and I believe he can but I’m not going to hold my breath. He’s made no attempt to improve his defense or his shot selection from last year under Clifford into this season. That’s usually telling of how a player thinks between the ears.

Facts. Kemba and Monk cannot coexist as starting guards together. Not in this NBA.

Oer 36 numbers can be soooo misleading. Right now Monk can't hold a candle to Mitchell. I seriously think Monk is still 2 years away from being a pretty good player. If he even gets there.

Monk is solid. The dude just can't get into a rhythm playing sporadic minutes. I'm not going to compare him to Mitchell because you're talking about 2 completely different developments and environments thus far. I think the skills are there and he is a better shooter than Mitchell. Whether he is able to put it all together and become a consistent starter in this league is too hard to predict based on the limited sample size.
Monk has better True shooting % this year by .002. I expect that to improve once he gets minutes and into a rhythm.

Re: GT charlotte vs knicks 1/28 7PM EST
Mitchell is given opportunities to fail without getting benched, Monk is not. It was only a couple of days ago that Mitchell was 7-24 from the field and not for the first time. He regularly has bad shooting games like that but they keep at it.
Monk on the other hand misses his first few shots and doesn't get back on the court.
That's the only point I was making. The player development is different because one team believes in their young players, the other doesn't.

mitchell is the sole initiator for the offense of his team. he's basically utah's kemba.
monk has one job - and he honestly isn't that good at it

It's actually more a slight at Mitchell because Monk hasn't been a great shooter, but has overtaken Mitchell now. Mitchell's has went down from last year.

its almost like he's the #1 option and defenses gameplan for him
whereas monk will go 1-11 any given night because why not

Re: GT charlotte vs knicks 1/28 7PM EST
I actually think Monk has shown more potential for development than any rookie we've drafted has in their first 1.5 years since I started following this team, not counting Kemba. Thats a pretty low bar, but still.
Monk couldn't get to the rim at all last year and was way too sporadic with his passing to really take advantage of his surprisingly good vision other than some very occasional flashes.
I don't even think his defensive effort is that bad for someone with his player archetype whose only 21 years old (technically 20 for like another week). His defense still sucks and his effort is definitely not there at times, but I think his issue has more to do with being scrawny and having inconsistent focus.
He still has a lot of things he needs to improve on, but I think everyone recognizes the talent, and you can actually see him developing and improving as the year progresses. I'm used to most of our rookies making to like year 3 and still haven't added anything to their game or really developed any skills other than just getting in better shape and improving their awareness.
If Monk puts in the work and Borrego has a legit development program I think he'll be pretty good.
